well, i found out today our cars arnt worth a pile of beans in the snow. I have a manual, and my car will just sit and spin and go nowhere from a stop, even when i dont give it gas and let off the clutch and let it roll itself, so i just start out in second and ive had success with that. does anyone elses ABS engage really early in snow? it seems like almost everytime i try to come to a stop, my ABS will kick in and my LOW TRAC light flies up. Anyhow, goodness do i love doing dounuts in the snow and pulling up my ebrake and spinning around, everyone should get out in snow where u are and do that.

In Richmond, VA as well. The snow here is bad and I just got a call from my ex who has the firebird saying that she could not keep the car under control. LSD and 3.42 gears are not fun in the snow. I told her to just stay where she is and not touch the car until the snow passes.

Same thing happens to me, let the clutch out tire spin. My ABS also kicks in really early.

yeah, i dont take the vette out in the snow. and i've just learned to control the spinning w/ the truck. (if i rev past like 1k rpm in the truck w/ anything more than .5" of snow on the groud, i'll be sideways untill like 20mph. its tricky, but i dont even think about it anymore.)

RWD truck w/ no weight over rear wheels and LSD =

It snowed just enough last night to make the streets nice and slick. I spun quite a bit this morning ... slid a little here ... a little there ... it was fun, 'till some @$$ cut me off and I almost DIED! AHH! Drive carefully!!

tires make ALL the difference..right now i have a pair of ultra high performance all-season continental tires that were rated very good for snow traction..yes i slid on the ice but i am yet to spin once in the snow ever since getting these tires..snow tires are good but you really need to watch out for your dry traction..i found these tires to be the best of both worlds..i also have a LSD which helps a lot too

tires tires tires

I run all weather hi perforamnce Dunlop tires.
sp sport 5000 Z rated 165 32-50 PSI range.

rain snow or shine they stick like glue.
My only problem is other people driving so slow.

I run 30 psi in snow n ice.

Though it does help to get out of first asap.
a full tank of gas helps too.

yes tires do help a lot. I just drive my dads buick century in the snow and it sucks a big fat donkey dong compared to my bird. I have BFG T/A KDWS 245/50/60 all around and the only thing I slip on is ice. now if ice is the problem you want a norrow tire(185-215) with studs. the norrownes of the tire helps distrubit the weight to a smaller area to help punch the studs through the ice.

After getting new rear tires (Bfg Traction T/A's) I have no complaints about the car in the snow. The front tires make turning hard sometimes but thats it. I guess it's just because my work truck ('98 Sonoma) has bad tires and no weight in the back, its no fun, so by comparison the Camaro is a beast in the snow.

I wouldn't do it and not sure if it possiable on the 4th, but I know a guy with a nice intrepid and the first thing he did was unplug the ABS.

I was out in the snow Sunday here to go to a meeting at work. I didn't really think it was that bad out until i got out on the main roads. My boyfriend's dad *he is living with his parents for the time being because he got screwed on his apartment lease and he's leaving in a month for 5-9 months* told me I could take his car out if I thought I wouldn't make it in the Firebird, but I didn't want to risk wrecking his car since I'm not insured under that car. My car was spinning and slidding everywhere. I ran a light because my car wouldn't stop. I had the brake on and it just kept going. When I was coming home from work I turned onto the road to go to my boyfriend's parent's condo and I almost slid into a salt truck. The front of my car about hit the back of the truck. If it snows like that again I'm not driving out in it with the Firebird anymore. I should not have been driving it in the first place because I know how fbodies suck in the snow. I drove my Z last winter. Between the three sport cars I have the Duster is probably the best one in the snow.
