  • I need a job sooo bad! VA peeps help out

If I don't get a job soon, my car is going to get reposessed. I am hungry and lonely and cold.

I just graduated from college with a BS in Professional Aviation. I have 250 flight hours. That isn't enough to get a job anywhere. They all want at least 500 hours.

I am going into the Marines full time on April 7th. I can't sit around that long with no job though. I will lose my car and... well... that would suck.

I checked out washingtonpost.com, and they have about 10 million jobs listed. They all say "anylist" or "consultant" or "accountant" in the job description. I have no idea what that entails. I would love to sit in an office from 9 to 5 for the next few months, but I would be expected to get something accomplished.

THere are lots of driving/courier jobs in the DC area, but they all require a good driving record. I have 31 tickets, and 30 of them are for speeding. I probably won't get any of those jobs.

There are a few jobs for mechanics in the area, but they are all for import dealerships. (there are no domestic cars in the DC metro area) I built the engine in my camaro, but I don't know much about import stuff. WHo the hell would put a cam on top of a motor? I don't have a virginia inspector liscense, and I am not ASE certified.

The 7-11 down the street from me is hiring for it's graveyard shift, but that place gets robbed like once a week. I don't want to get shot unless I am on active duty in the Marines.

Where should I look for temporary jobs with decent pay?

Pathogen- does your company need anyone to do entry level stuff? Please? How about you Stefan, Does your company have any openings. I am willing to scrub toilets at this point.

all those places you listed are probably going to want someone for the forseeable future, not someone for the next few months. check with a temp agency... i'm afraid that you won't get much of a job for just 3 months worth of time.

I went the temp agency route a while back. I ended up being at the first job they put me in for like 8 months before I found something better and quit.
I don't know how it is there, but around here they always have advertisements for like a few weeks or a couple month jobs advertised. Pay isn't anything spectacular, but it might be enough to get you by. Also most of it is an office style job, where you work a day shift.
And atleast when I did it, you just had to be able to type accuratly for their tests and with a little bit of speed. Nothing to difficult though.

check with a restaurant to be a server, not always a fun job but will pay the bills at least. What about like UPS, a moving company, or just drive around the area till you see a now hiring sign.

Insurance is high. that is why I don't have a z28. I should have lost my liscence a long time ago, but I keep changing my address, so my records never catch up to me.

I worked for UPS for a long time. I got laid off from UPS just after xmas. THat was in KS, but I am confident that they cut thier work force here in VA too.

I will live under a bridge and eat bugs before I work as a waiter. (good suggestion though) I have the worst customer relation skills in the universe. I hate people.

I will look at a temp agency.

                      Get a job at walmart...

I know people that think they are too good to work some jobs... and say stuff, like I won't work for less then $8 an hour, they also had their **** repossesed.

at $6.15 an hour, you you could likely make ~$400 a month only working like 20 hours a week.

I'd rather have $400 a month then $0 a month, and while you are working look for a better job.

How did you get layed off from UPS if you worked for them for a long time? You must not have been there very long then...if you had seniority, and they layed you off, you should file a grievance and get all the back pay...and your job back.

Were you in the Union? If not, you're S.O.L. then. If you were, and you want, I'll look up the lay off rules in the contact book.
