• Upgrading my Corvette

I know to most people this isnt a big deal...

Since anyone can go buy a Z06..

But to me it is...

I just ordered the LS1 to LS6 conversion kit for my 2004 Corvette...

My Corvettes an automatic.(wife cant drive a stick) so buying a Z06 was never an option for me...

But now Im happy cause Im gonna have the power of the Z06 but still be able to take my targa roof off...

My car still wont be quite as fast as the Z06 due to the Z06 having...

-100 pounds less weight

-3.42 gears vrs my slower 2.73's

-less rescrictive intake and exhaust

-F1 tires vrs my crappy run flats

-manual trans mission loosing 15 % HP though the drive train vrs my automatic loosing 18% through the drive train

Ill probaly end up being a good 3-4 tenths slower than the Z06....

But still a good half second quicker than any stock LS1 Corvettes...

Right now Im dynoing 299 rwhp and 309 rwt BONE STOCK ans SAE corected..

Im hoping after the install to be 340 rwhp and 350 rwt SAE corrected..

The Z06 dynos any where from 345 (low) to 365 (high) or roughly 355 rwhp...

Hopefully I hit the 340 rwhp and have atleaste the power of a 01 Z06...

Then after I put on the typical aftermarket intake and exhaust...

I should be right there....

Man I just cant wait for the install...

Rigt now my automatic changes into second gear at 55 mph...

After the install and tune ( there gonna change my rev limiter from 6000 to 6500 just like the Z06) I SHOULD BE WELL INTO THE 60'S BEFORE I HIT SECOND GEAR...

My best 0-60 mph at the track is 5.0 with a 1/4 mile of 13.5 at 104 mph..

Im hoping that after the install Ill be at a 0-60 of 4.5 and a 1/4 mile of 13.0 @ 109 mph.....

This would be awesome cas my track is slow do to the Hawaiian weather and Z06's do no better than high 12's...

Maybe 12.6 at best..But usualy 12.7-13.0

hey, thats what i ran in my '91
ok, actually a 13.58, and it has a few bolt ons.

sounds exciting, have the best of both worlds w/ the ls6 but still the targa top. do you have both a glass and body colored top? i've only got the glass one for mine :( , gotta love the targa though.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to do a H/C type thing?
What are you doing with the LS1 componants? :D

i hear that the run flats weigh slightly more than 'normal tires'. a AAA card is pretty light (lighter than a spare anyway).

turbo, biatch.

you can build a custom setup pretty easy and get much better numbers. Just keep it around 6-8psi.

Cool.

While you have that engine open, I'd consider other things. I'm not insisting on a shopping spree...wait, I am. :D

I'd start a topic like this on LS1tech or another board so you can get other opinions. I'm sure many would comment and you'll get more insightful feedback from the LS1 MasTaHs over there.

Oh Ive been on the Corvette forum for many months now.

The LS6 conversion is nonthing more than a mild H/C job...

I could have easily spent 500$$$ more and got a diffent head cam set up that would let me dyno 360-400 rwhp....

But with that kinda power comes more responsibilty..

Your talking about 450-500 Bumper HP with one of those set ups.....

I was just to scared to go for big power like that after my bad experience with my camaro....

So I just took the mild extra 50 ponies route..

Plus I got GM reliability and I can always say that It has the Z06 engine if I ever sell..

Um, 2:76 gears

Vortex ram air/ cold air kit or donaldson blackwing intake.

BIG impovements!

Mom's 00 C5 auto drop top w/ run flat tires and 2:76's had ONLY a drop in k&n and went 13.30 at 103 mph.

Driver is a key factor... weather wasn't the best.

I'd do the cold/ ram air kit I mentioned.... and SLP loudmouth for a bit better free flowing exhaust (10 rwhp) and 20 pounds less :D

Sad that I know this off the top of my head right???

I guess the climate in Hawaii still hampering the full potential of your vette. I know someone who is doing 12.8 with only an intake and exhaust. Automatic too.

But yeah, good luck Laron with that Vette. Sounds sweeet.
