How can it be illegal to DL music? As long as your not selling it then there shouldnt be a problem. I know people on this board have copied a CD for a friend. Its the same thing. Your not selling the music.

(I even found one easy to read)

You won't get caught downloading music files, but technically it's ilelgal. You're obtaining copyrighted information without the consent of the copyright owner... how is that legal?

I never understood the whole "sharing" concept - how is it so much different than recording off the radio onto tapes like we all used to do (well, some of you might be too young to remember owning a tape, but... )? I thought copyright law was there to prevent people from making money off of someone else's creation. Not to worry about whether Eminem or Metallica were making the most that they could.

The record industry is suing because they say sales have gone down because people can download - I say it's mostly because CD's haven't gone down in price in about a decade! And most people still buy music that they would have bought anyway, it's just that now they get to listen to stuff that they would never have bought in the first place! ANd if they like it, they might actually buy the original.

Also, I had about $1000 worth of CD's stolen out of my car which of course weren't covered by insurance because they weren't "attached" to the car - I had paid for all that music already, why should I have to buy it again cuz some punk *** hoodlem stole from me? So now I copy all my CD's and mostly put the copies in my car and keep the originals at home. I just think the record company suing people is insane. If they're selling the stuff, then fine, but if they're just listening to it, ...

actually, since you paid for the cds, you can download them legally off someone else I think, since you already paid for them? I don't know, it's all confusing... but you bought rights to the music when you bought those cds.

I think that's why feds don't waste time in charging downloaders... it's hard to prove that those people hadn't purchased those cds at one time.
