Never trust a dealership, folx (but you knew that)

I took my car into the shop yesterday because I've been getting an increasingly bad vibration in the rear end. Come to find out, the diff was bone dry. No oil. Not a drop.

God knows how long it's been running like that.

I know it hasn't been leaking because I park in the same spot all the time and there isn't a single drop of oil anywhere to be found.

Which means, the god damn dealer never filled it back up when I paid them to change the fluid LAST FALL before I put the car in the garage.

Is it possible to run for almost 6,000 miles with no diff fluid and only now start to see the effects? I would think not -- I'd think it would have been at least whining like hell. It doesn't make any sense to me.

All I know is that I'm pissed off. Had a gear swap planned for this fall, but I might have to move it up. :-/

my boss has her oil changed somewhere because she is unable to do it herself for whatever reason. last time they forgot to PUT MOTOR OIL IN THE MOTOR.

i was surprised at that but now knowing that it can happen, i am somehow not surprised at your post. experiences like this help me learn to do something myself if i want it done right.

when i fix my rear maiin seal, you better believe im ganna change to an aluminum DS and a better TC.

Ya know, it is very possible that it leaked only when the axles (or york) where spinning. Did you check the rear brakes for any sign of lubricate? I have seen cars that leak at the axle seals and the gear would get burned up when the brakes were applied. Telltale sign of this is that the rear brakes are covered by a soot like material. There is no way that a bone dry rear end would last 6,000 miles.

to be honest my differential leaks but you never see any spots on the ground. on hot days you can smell it being burned on the exhaust pipe (but only from the rear of the car). it leaking from the pinion seal (typical) and gets slung off the driveshaft. i just top it off every 3000 miles.

check by the pinion seal, does it look like its spraying up on the bottom of the car?

If its your pinion seal and you need one, I'll give you and you only a special deal, paypal me the cost of shipping and I have a new one(well I have had it for a year) in wrapper sitting here in front of me. GM part# 26026792 I bought it for my 94 when I broke my torque arm and drove it about 2 miles with the rear axle rotated, I just assumed I destroyed the pinion seal but it was fine.

I don't even remember what this seal cost but I think it was like $15.

Oh I absolutely despise dealers now. For one..they sold me a lemon, the car has had nothing but problems and I've only driven it 14,000 miles. Then here's a very funny story. Driver side power window stopped working. I take it in, first thing I do it ask if it's covered under the warrenty...since the dealer that sold the car didn't bother to send me a brochure of the $1750 warrenty I bought.. Anyway, they claim it's not covered..I'm like ok.

They call me up, it's done, they replaced the window motor. I pay $300 , get in my car, start it, POWER WINDOW DONT WORK! LOL I walk back to the desk, they give me a funny look, and I'm like "Um..hehe, the um..power window I just payed $300 to fix still doesn't work" LOL So as I was at the desk, I noticed a brochure for the GMMG warrenty. I flipped through it and I see power windows ARE covered under my $1750 GMMG warrenty! SO I show them this and they go, ok we have to verify by calling some number. They find out I'm right and I pay my $100 deductible insead of $300 LOL WTF. NICE customer service. It was a "certified GM" dealer too.

yeah dealers ****ing suck, when i had my gtp fixed about a month ago i failed to check under the hood when i got it back and 2 weeks later i went to clean my engine and noticed that when they were fixing my car they scratched the **** outta my front stb{instead of taking off 4 bolts and removing it} and didnt put my engine cover back in. Of course when i went back up there they denied it.

I used to have a ford ranger and it had no fluid inthe diff and I had to replace everything from the tranny back. The guy who fixed my truck took one look at the tranny to rebuild it and just laughed cause it was soo ****ed. consider yourself lucky.
