Is Louisiana this years Florida?

With TS Cindy on its way to hitting Lousiana, then Dennis looks like its going to do the same, although its still too far to be certain. Is Lousiana gonna suffer the same fate Florida did last year?

really it depends on where they hit, much of louisiana is already been designed to handle flooding since we traditionally get so much rain. Our drainage systems are quite reinforced. Now if you are talking about New Orleans then yes, they really can't handle much rain. Anything over 1 inch an hour and it starts to flood. What most people don't realize is N.O. is a world all to itself compared to the rest of LA both in geography and the people there. Anyway i'm way up in north La so at most it'll just help the farmers around here, they are begging for some rain

ahh ok.. that makes sense, just news always hows NO flooding so I assume all of new orleans is like that.


FL is the same way, we had most rain ever recorded for the month of June, and only some slight flooding in some areas, nothing near us.

And south florida has one of the most intricate drainage systems ever with canals... I have seen the canals rise 10 feet in the worst floods but then the pumps kick in and overnight it will drop 5 feet. And its cool that you can navigate your self to the ocean from man made canals as far as 20 miles inland. [img]smile.gif[/img]

Ok, guys...

Those who have seen any of my posts through the years know that I don't put much money into my car because we simply don't have that much disposable funds to spend on my hobby.

But...

Today I plunked down another $1000 at Lowes buying aluminum hurricane panels. That's on top of the $700 or so I spent this spring and aonther $500 a few years ago. Plus, $500 for a emergency generator, $200 for an emergency window air conditioner, and several hundred more for hardware.

That's over $3000 for emergency preparedness for the house - not including all the supplies we keep on hand.

That still leaves three giant sliding doors areas and transom windows unprotected. I'm figuring I may have to pay some one to install hurricane shutters for those - say $1.5K-$2K (???) per sliding door area. At least another $5000 more to complete the shutters.

And of course, that protects us from wind; there is little we can do in case of a flood. So, i am paying extra for flood insurance.

Yeah - it is a piece of cake here.

Well, according to the latest update, it's aiming its sites at the panhandel, and is currently a very strong cat 3...130MPH winds.

I think its gonna take a turn right to tampa. We're seriously overdue. Good thing we stocked up on food.
