  • Want to buy a handgun? Info

I found this funny little flash video on the ATF website titled, Typical Handgun Sale
    http://www.atf.gov/firearms/ffrrg/theater/toon2.html

It goes over the laws and regulations governing handgun sales, and gives a good idea on how to go about purchasing one.

It's informative, but it's funny cause it sounds so rehearsed.

I never said it was hilarious, but it did make me chuckle. When you look and buy as many guns as I have, you find that dealers are never quite that informative :D

As somebody so eloquently put it on another board
      that's so fake

      women and guns :D

Ha, I've never had a dealer check the weapon before handing it to me. The first thing I do is eject the mag and lock open the slide.

As Dan said, I buy my guns from fat, bearded guys in overalls :D

but seriously, all the gun shows I go to require that the guns be made not to fire in some way, so usually the handguns have a thick zip-tie around the slide through the barrel. This way you can't pull back the slide or anything. At the gun shops people are pretty nice and laid back. This is the South, after all ;)

I assume you frequent gunstore/pawn shops with lots of guns and huge bars on the windows? Those creep me out. I could defiently see them being anal about handing guns out to customers.

anywhere from the bigger chains like GanderMountain/ Cabelas to small independant shops to ranges that have shops/stores. Everyone has been good about removing any magazine and opening the action before handing the gun over. Never been to a pawn shop looking.

Ah, gotcha. We ain't got none ah them there chain stores 'round here.

I just kind of chuckle when they just hand them to me. One lady would pull out the mag and hold on to it, but that was about it.

I always drop the mag and show the person that the chamber is empty before handing it to them.
