• Bolton's Oil Change

Ok, me and my family were due to go out of town a few weeks ago. So we decide which car to take, and pick my sister's 98 Passat. Which has just pretty much had a rebuild. So, she goes to bolton's the day before we leave. And the guy puts 6 qts instead of 4.5. The next day, we're driving through dalhart ****ing texas at highway speed and the oil light comes on. The engine had spun a bearing. We were stranded almost 4 hours, and didn't even get to go on our free vacation in Colorado at the Broadmoor  . Well, we just got the diagnosis today and so my dad called bolton's, with the owner's manual open. He asked the mechanic, so how many qts of oil do you put in this car? 6. No, it's 4.5 and my daughter's engine blew a few days ago because you put 6 in. Mechanic refers my dad to mr. Bolton, who tells my dad to talk to his mechanic and see whether he thinks that's it. We saw some stuff on the internet saying the crank would beat too much oil into a foam that the oil pump can't pump, and basically cause the engine to spin a bearing.

So what can we do? None of the mechanics really want to acknowledge our case, they say it would come out through the cat or cause a small leak. Holy crap, maybe if it was like 1/4 qt instead 1.5!

Hmm....lawyers may need to get involved.

My dad had some tires put on a boat trailor at a pep boys in dallas. When they were on I35 going down the highway one of them came off. It hit his truck and messed up some simulators(he has an f350 dually) and messed up some other stuff on the trailor before it shot off the road way and into a field.

They got the tires fixed and money to fix the other stuff it broke(cause they didn't put the tire on good).

That turned out okay, but cause there is more money involved cause of the engine, I'll bet you will have to take it a little further than my dad did (yet again, lawyers).

    Sorry to hear that though.

            that really sucks.

similar problem: dad just sold his spare truck, a '95 jimmy. the front ends of those have to be greased every time you get an oil change. the place my dad took it to for YEARS never once did that. he sold it a couple weeks ago and the guy brought it back and asked why it started making a funny noise so they went and got it checked out and the front end was about to fall apart. this might turn into something here. and i'm definitely not going there to get my oil changed ever again.

maybe 15 minutes, it happened outside dalhart so we pulled over and listened, checked oil... etc and decided to try to make it... which is probably what ****ed the car but there was no cell service... just nothing so there wasn't really an alternative.

Yup when I worked at chevron we had ton's of people come in with problems (low oil, car running funny ect ect) almost 80% of them had been to bolton's within the last 2 weeks.
