If you don't want to think for yourself ;) and work at a union job, yet make 8.50 an hour to start plus full benefits (medical/dental/vision) you could be a p/t package handler at ups. We work monday through friday so you'll be able to enjoy your weekends.

    www.upsjobs.com

I started out as a clerk luckily a year ago, and I take home around 650 a month after taxes, medicare and union dues. This is working an average 20-22 hours a week.

My worst regret while I was in highschool now is working 25-30 hours a week at Wal-mart and not having a life. I thought monday's, wednesdays and thursdays were special. All my friends were out having a great time on the weekends, while I was stuck at work. My advice is to avoid a weekend job while you're in highschool, I miss it already. You have your whole life ahead of you to work your *** off, enjoy yourself and especially your senior year.

    Good luck.

yeah i tried the exact job you are talking about package handler. I made it all the way to the 2nd interview and nothing so i guess they gave it to someone else . But know my prob is i have to work marketing or retail becuase i got into the workprogram and that is what my class is. So my next choice was walmart but i mean everything i want you have to be 18 i would have loved to work for autozne or napa

Ahh that sucks. I bet its just due to your age. Minors can't go 4 hours without a 30 minute break. :(

HD or lowe's are also good choices...i've known part timers making $13+/hr but I live in jersey so cost of living is probably different but for easy work its a decent part time gig.

High school, I just sucked it up. Worked at the local ice cream store for 5.75/hr... it's money, flexible schedule, and could chill with my friends/they'd come to the store on the weekends.

Went 1st semester of college on no job but got sick of having to ask parents for money, got hooked up with a job valet parking... it's a guaranteed $7/hr minimum, and if you make more than you're supposed to (tips) then you just keep it all. Get to drive cars and get paid for it, and a real flexible schedule... can't complain, really.

I worked for Exxon pumping gas when I was 17, taught me a lot about cars and making people smile for customer retention. Maybe that would be a great start if you can find a reputable full service station and not one of them quickie marts occupied by a turban wearing terrorist lol. Or how about a major chain lube employer? Theyre always hiring to ambitious young adults who like cars like all of us, Start there!

I worked as a busboy and a cook at a country club restaurant during high school. Country clubs are a very nice environment and the people can often be good tippers. Plus, you get good food.
