  • Anyone else had problems with AAMCO?

    Hey guys,

So, have any of you ever had problems with an AAMCO transmission shop? After today, I don't think I'd ever reccomend them...or at least the one near me. I made an appointment to have my car looked at today at 9am, got there on time but nobody was there. I wait about 5 minutes, and the guy (the owner, I assume) pulls up and apologizes and lets me in. We get into the shop, and his cell phone starts ringing, so he answers, and next thing I know he's making small talk about some vacation he's taking to holland with this "customer" thats on the phone.

I got sick of it and just walked out and left. He chased me out and claimed to be "making conversation while the customer got his credit card number"...right. Guess its for the best though, i made an appointment with a real transmission shop, not a nationwide chain that doesn't already have the best reputation based on what I've heard.

Now the fun begins in diagnosing my P1870 code, seems pretty common with our transmissions based on all the other posts about it...

Sounds to me like you were just being impatient. Did you take the car somewhere else?

Yeah, made an appointment with another place for Monday. I don't feel I was being impatient at all...I went to this place on time, he was late, then he tells me to take a seat and he just proceeds to make smalltalk on the phone for 10 minutes? Not professional at all...and a waste of my time on top of that.

My P1870 was caused by the aluminum valve body in our trannies that wears out, and fluid seeps by..causing the converter to come in and out of lock up. Mine would build line pressure to compensate and shift HARD, I hated it.

Cost me around 500 parts/labor to get it fixed. That valve body was expensive. :(

Yeah my car is doing the same thing...weird thing is, my check engine light has been going off recently, then after a day or so it comes back on. Somethings definitely up though...car just isn't shifting right. On the highway it acts like it can't find overdrive sometimes, and it just doesn't seem to be shifting properly in general.
