  • Need opinions/suggestions

I'm looking into saving up and buying another car, an older car and not a camaro, I'm still keeping my 94. I'm looking for something to drag race in, when the strip here opens. I'm thinking maybe a Mustang (I love mustangs anyway) but does anyone have any suggestions on what would be good to look into getting? Something fairly easy for me to work on, easy to get parts for, and good for racing...

    Thanks!

an import would be the best at meeting those requirments. and since they have small motors the insurance will be dirt cheep too

lol..i'm surprised he hasnt posted yet..
as for the car, try and find an older 2nd or 3rd gen camaro or 5.0 mustang. both can be had dirt cheap and if the car's main purpose is to be a track car, you can throw a carbed engine in one and have lots of fun for not a lot of cash. id say a mid to early 80's mustang is your best bet if you dont want another camaro. if you look around, you can find them for like 2-3 grand and with the 5.0 HO, they are bullet proof to almost all abuse. Hell, you could prolly run 10's with the correct turbo setup and chassis and such onthe factory motor. If interested, look for a mag called muscle mustangs and fast fords. they are constantly doing cheap, well detailed and technical buildups... just be sure you check the car out first so it wasnt beat to death before you get it... good luck on the search...

                      my cousin has one
he held it to the floor in every gear (up to 4th with a 5 spd)
just to see if it could take it
                      it did
he said the tach was running out past 7 grand and he'd hold 'er down for awhile after that

You could pick up a 2nd gen(86-91) rx-7 pretty cheap. I got mine for $800. Then just do a search online. There are companies out there that sell kits to to a 350 swap into them. Think about it- 2600 pounds, 350hp ls1, irs, 2-seater. Almost like an 80's Japanese Corvette

Another car would be the Dodge Daytona IROC R/T. Stock for stock, they're as fast if not faster than SRT-4s, and look better than those neons

I thought IROC Daytonas were mid 14 second cars....I would NOT get a srt-4 if your looking for a track car, front wheel drive = no traction. And why buy a new car if your just gonna beat it to hell anyway?

The best car I could see is an old 5.0 stang. Those engines can pretty much take anything you throw at them. My friend has a gutted '88 GT, with the exception of a K&N, the only mod he has is a 150 shot. It ran 11.5s all day long.
