I've used Maxtor external hard drives for backups ever since a "Fireball" hard drive in an old HP burned its own motherboard.

I actually have no issue with Maxtors...I've got a butt-ton of them i'm trying to sell though because they're just sitting around. I may just give this one a shot.
My issue with WD's: I have the 80gb special edition (8MB cache) as did my fiance (stock with computer) and her cousin (stock with computer). All three took a dump, thankfully within warranty period. Although, before my WD drive died, it took TWO motherboard Primary IDE controllers - I switched to secondary IDE and it took those a few months later as well. Not to mention, these WD drives sound like A freight train doing its best impersonation of an F16 taking off an aircraft carrier taking heavy fire in the middle of a hurricane...big minus points.
Seagate: I LOVE the quietness these things give, but I have one in transit to the RMA center because it's been thrashing for a while.
How quiet are these maxtors? I want something that doesn't make much sound when it's not spinning or working hard.2011 Camaro LS 6M, in black.

That's not a bad price, but to me, this is a much better deal.
