Today the differences are cosmetic but they are still there. Camaros look cheaper and flimsier, hence they sell for less.

My take is, why settle for a Camaro when you can spend $1000-ish more and get a Firebird--a much nicer car?

I never understood why people ever bought Camaros.

Camaros were ALWAYS made with less options in them so that they were lighter than Firebirds, hence, performing slightly better. Trans Ams are overweight and bulked out with options and luxury items, which is ok if your looking for that type of car. If your looking for Performance, though, an SS Camaro is the way to go. People that race do not care about fancy items in their car. They want it as light and quick as possible from the factory. As for looks, it's all subjective, so to say the "firebird is a much nicer looking car" is your opinion. Personally, I wouldn't trade my Camaro for a Firebird, EVER. The Camaro was always considered the poor man's "Vette" and has always had a more established name. No one has ever said to me...."is that a Firebird your driving??" But I can guarantee it's been the other way around for many Firebird owners.. ;) </font>[/QUOTE]Actually, I read a magazine article the other day from a circa 98-99 popular hot rodding or something like that in which they drag tested lots of cars, including the awd turbo mitsubishi 3000gt, camaro SS and formula ws6.

The ws6 ran a 13.1 to the SS's 13.7, and the reasons given were that it was easier to make the firebird hook and that it didn't have options like power windows to weigh it down. I'll agree that you could order a z/28 without some of the options that were standard on a trans am, but if you were buying for performance a formula ws6 was the best bang for the buck.

I deff see more camaros then firebirds every single day. Although there are 4 firebirds i know of within 3 miles of me. Yes firebirds are slightly more exp then camaros.

Lets see ive had 3 camaros(87,95,93) and one firebird. All i have to say is that the firebird is 10x nicer then the camaros. Way better interior and comfort, quality, and is it me or do ALL CAMAROS squeck and ratlle. My friends z28 is way better then my firebird in comfort and interior quality but my friends trans am makes the camaro feel like its cheaply made

I do agree that camaro has a better history with its name and also i do get that "nice camaro" crap all the time. Well 95% of the time its girls who say that

I have always liked Firebirds much better than Camaros. I still think Camaros are great cars; however, Firebird will always be the hands-down better of the two for me.
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

I have noticed that there are more Camaros on the road then Firebirds. The only firebirds I actually see around my area are the same ones over and over again. There are 4 firebirds in our neighborhood within a few blocks of each other.

Pontiac has almost always been (in more recent years) a chevy clad in some fiberglass ****.

I love the bird though. Some of them look badass, its all about the ram air hood on those.

I think the camaro looks cleaner though. Plus I hate pontiac interiors. I hate all GM interiors just about, but oh well.

It was NEVER well known that a bird could blow the doors off of a camaro, because its not true.

My take is, if you can spend $1000 less on the same car, you have more band for the buck, and $1000 of modding money right off the bat.

as far as the last 9 years of production... firebird is just a more intimidating car on the street. since 98 they are a more definitive looking muscle car. the maros went to them ugly looking bubble head lights and took alot away from the look. it looked to girlie. dont get me wrong its still an F-body so i like it but i would not take a maro over my bird.

current car- 95 Trans am- bolt ons, parked and collecting dust. why? because **** it

i like both cars. i know 2 guys that are brothers that have 2001 Firebirds. One black one red and i've spanked both of them in races. The black one is a W68 package. They also don't have any work to them. The red one has exhaust that's about it. Both are nice cars.

I personally do not like the 98+ firebirds at all, the trans-am is a little better, but the firebird is just horrible. The front end looks pregnant, and the car as a whole just has to much going on. I would never give up my camaro for any firebird or trans-am for that matter. The camaro is definately more subtle looking, but far more attractive and tasteful . Plus, it seems to me that no one cared when the firebird died, all the talk was about the end of the legendary camaro, and how much it would be missed. I guess thats why the camaro will be back, and the firebird has been replaced.

Pontiac has more styling(not saying its a good thing). Since they just take chevys and buicks engines, they have less to worry about. The last engine I know that is considered pontiac is the iron duke.

But I also see 10x more Camaros here in NY. I only know one 1 4th gen. Firebird around here (a few 3rd gen.), all the rest are Camaros. So I'd like to think my car is a rare spectacle around here :D .

There are definitely more camaros around than firebirds. I see them every day where as i can usually go most of the day or even several days before I see a firebird (especially in the later gens)

As to this stuff about which is better?

                                IMO: firebird hands down

I watched a show about pontiac from its conception + pontiac was always at least marketed as the progression between the lower level cars and their flagship cars like the corvette. Pontiac has better styling and options. Not everyone likes them but to me its natural, I like my cars like i like my women (Fast and curvy) and pontiac and the firebird supplies that for me.

Would I buy a camaro.. yes... over my car no. Its a badazz car but inferior in looks by far and a smidge in performance (based on the articles ive read, shows ive seen, and what ive seen at the track)

For me the camaro is always going to be the younger, slightly less adept brother. ;)

And whats all this lineage crap, firebird has a history and so far almost everyone that asks me about my car at all has identified it either as a firebird or a trans am (cept on biyatch who asked if it was a ferrari lol)

Firebirds have a lineage especially for anyone that survived the 70's and 80's. Ever heard of a little known show called "Knight Rider" ?
