well guys i thought i had a rear main seal leak, i took it to the local midas(cheapest place) i was gonna be around 200 bucks, well they start taking stuff on the rack and realize that it is the oil pan and that there is a crack in it(i seen the crack, they showed me) so instead of being 200 it is costing around 600 now :( they are charging me 75 dollars and hour for this CRAP!!!! they are basically ripping me off now that the car is tore down, also they broke header bolts and are charging me 80 bucks for new bolts and install????i really dont get that, i can understand buying new ones but shouldnt that be in the first intitial labor charge due to the fact that they took them off to begin with?? ALSO i was JUST about to buy HEADERS DANG i could have them pput on now for nearly nothing!!! :( its a sad day in the money department and no springs/shocks for me :(

I wouldnt pay labor and parts for something they broke. Plus, I would tell them to take it off the lift I am towing to a real shop or doing it myself. Midas has no clue what they are doing.

If someone broke something on my car working on it and charged me for it I'd tell them to stick it up the ***

Sucks. Should have checked the oil pan yourself :(

Well, as a mechanic, I can say this. When your working on cars, **** breaks. You cant expect the mechanics to pay for your **** to break while they work on it. But I do agree Midas does **** work. Sorry to hear about your bird chet.

Well, they shouldn't charge him labor for something they did. I'd find the guy in charge and get something done.

I busted my oil pan once, but it didn't cost me $600 to replace...

Your lucky and I am in the mood to be a gentlemen and not mack a comment on this ;)

1: why are you taking your car to midas for anything other then welding your exhaust up?

2: I think you should pay for header bolts, and maybe split the labor. Sure they broke but header bolts breaking is pretty common.

Its almost like saying, "you have to buy me a new oil pan gasket, since you broke the one when you took it off!"

3:Ask to see the oil pan when they remove it at the last minute.

2: go to lowes and buy your own header bolts like i did.... i can get you size if you need it, its like $4

Midas is the biggest con job on the planet. NEVER go to midas - not even to borrow the toilet.

They broke header bolts on me once, never told me about, and then wanted to charge me $500 to tap out the broken bolt.

Save yourself the agravation. Skip going to midas, set $500 on fire, then go smash your head with a hammer. Saves time, and you get the same result!

well guys listen to the story for the reason i went to midas, everyone thought it was the rear main seal yada yada yada, i went to midas to also get a quote and got the quote for a rear main seal and it was like under 200, everyone else was around 400-500 i said ok get me that gasket asap and ill bring it in, then the story above kicked in, they gave me the quote i assumed it would either be cheaper or ARound the price of everyone else's MAKES SENSE IMO, well i was wrong, everything was tor out from under the car, LUCKILY me and my mom put so much into me a savings every month, and i was able to get some money outta that, YES i have LEARNED my lesson, i am 18 and i was basically shopping around for the best deal, i found it for the rear main, and eventually ended up getting screwed, i am going to argue with the header bolts when i go pick up the car today,BC yes i will pay for the BOLTS, but NOT for the labor, if they had to take them off that should have been in the oilpan labor rate. Also if it wasnt then WTF did they take em off for, get what i am saying? so yes i will pay for the bolts but i am trying to get out of the labor rates, i DEF. have made a mistake and will try and not let it happen again! just one of those things that you wanna beat your head on the wall until it explodes!!!!!
