  • Work out Question

I'm 18 going to be 19 in August and I've been lifting for about 4 years now and working out for a lil longer. I'm not some ripped dude with a 6-pack or anything like that. I'm 6 foot about 240 and play center in football. So I'm not some fat tackle, but I've got a lil spare tire.

Lately I haven't been noticing the gains like I normally would. I lift about 4 days a week. I kind of made up my own routine and I did it last year also, but lately I've been wondering if it's good for me.

Mondays: Chest and do a little bi's and tri's
Tuesday: Off because I have to work right after school
Wednesday: Lats, Traps, Shoulders (all the back stuff)
    Thursday: All arms
    Friday: Legs

Is it good to only focus on one muscle group a day or is there a better way to lift. Also the past 2-3 months I've been running everday and doing core to try and get in shape for vacation (gotta look good for the ladies :D ). I also take a dietary supplement.

    Thanks

I really don't focus on my legs at the gym because I play icehockey a few times a month. Normally when I go to the gym I do Chest & Arms one day, Back & Shoulders the next. I also do about 75-125 Situps everytime I'm at the gym too.

You have weight on your body...thats good! If you're lifting though, don't look to start losing any of that weight. Since I've been working out, I've gained 20lbs, but my waistline has only gotten 2" smaller.

yea its good to lift and focus on only one muscle group a day... i used to lift with highschool and college football and baseball players... they all focus mainly on certain things each day... the way the football player i lifted with did it was 5 days a week...1-biceps 2-triceps 3-back and shoulders- 4 legs- 5 core
i gained weight doin that without taking any supplements.. then this past year me and my brother who are both baseball players lifted weights together takin whey protein... he gained about 20 pounds and i gained about 10 and slimmed up some...we focus mainly on arms cause i pitch and i think its been working pretty good because he is 5'8 1/2 175lbs and benches 225+ and before i hurt my elbow i was benchin 185+
-just curious...how much do you bench?

there are so many different types of splits to use its not even funny.

the one i use that i found works best for me is a 2 day, full body workouts a week.

          wed. back and tries.

Wow thanks. Ohh I'm not looking to lose weight, I can careless how much the scale says, I just want to get a flater stomach. I do sit ups now, but I'm having problems with my lower abs and my obliques (sp?), the top is starting to get flater and tighter.

            thanks guys

You have to correspond your abs with lower back workouts! (Same with arms, as they need to be corresponded with forearms). Plus, lean your muscle out!

Also, get on the elliptical or treadmill for 30-45 minutes a day. That will help you burn the extra cals you have stored in your gut (I lost 10-15lbs within two months doing that). If you're going for a more toned look, and don't care too much about mass, do low weight/high reps. That will help out a lot too

this means more reps, less weight. I used to be on the weight lifting team in high school. Was in the greatest shape. now my 6 pack is fading and im nowhere near as strong but im still about the same size (130ish lbs). I was in the 129lb weight class btw.

tips with football is explode out when you push out... then bring it down nice and slow, and breath the whole time..

Just stuff I have seen alot of people not do the same in football, but in just regular weightlifting.

Also make sure you incorporate alot in legs, and try some full body lifts, like a dead lift, power cleans and squats. They have been seen to help increase testosterone production.

Probably not what you were looking for but just tips on functional lifting in football.

i've worked out since i was 15 now 21, you should run if you want your legs to get cut but i'm sure that you do that at fb pratice. if you want good abs check out 8 min abs vidio. sounds corney but i always had good abs that didn't show and now they are just like BAM! i have to admit that i have a good body, skiny and muscles(5"2 101 lbs). just keep at it and you have to give yourself time to rest. don't forget that water!
