• Premium Gas for Z28's?

im looking at buying a z28 since my v6 firebird has horrible gas mileage...like 16mpg and insuarance is kinda high and its not much more for a z28 (i wonder why...). My friend said it only takes premium gas, is that true? i hope not, but if it's true just be nice and tell me

    Thanks!

well, technically it would take regular, its not going to spit it back out of the tank or anything. But premium is what your supposed to use

It'll retard the timing if you run regular. You can do it, but you won't like the results. Run 91 or higher. In my part of New York that means 93 or 94 -- don't know about Georgia.

However, I must say, if you're getting 16 MPG with your V6 there is something terribly wrong with you car.

I've never heard of anyone upgrading from a V6 to a V8 to get better gas mileage.

We run 90 octane fuel in our '98 Trans Am.

          16mpg? Damn I drive a little "fast" and I'm still getting 25-27mpg.

A guy I work with has a 2000 Z28 A4 and tries to run 87 or 89 octane but his car pings pretty bad, especially on the 87. Sounds like a can of marbles after each shift at low throttle openings and when climbing hills in 3rd gear. Of course it is worse the hotter it gets. The owner's manual says you can run 87 and the car will adjust to it but is sure doesn't sound good.

no offense, but that is the most retarded thing i've read all year. you want a V8 because you think you'll get better gas mileage than a V6 and insurance is too high? what the hell kind of world do you live in?

if i put anything less than 93 in my car at work, it sputters and knocks like mad. and i get a good 8mpg.

My Trans Am (when stock, which didn't last long) would run on 87 octane, but it ran like crap. I ALWAYS put 93 octane in it. My brother borrowed the car one day and filled it with 87.

Now, the car litterally will not run on 87. Sh*t, when this thing goes back together with the new cam, I'm wondering if 93 will do it..

i use 93 in all my cars, may say its in my head but my vehicles seem to run better on 93. When i bought the 01 a couple days ago they filled it up at the dealer and i dont know what they used but it made it run kinda rough, after i used half the tank i filled it up with shell v power and added some stp gas treatment and it runs like 10000x better

Wow. Something must be rather tired/messed up/ridiculously modded for you to be getting that kind of mileage. I don't think I could get 16 mpg with mine unless I let it idle overnight....all week long.
