Sounds like your insurance plan blows if you're paying that much for liability only.

i too have allstate. 20 yrs old. 2 tickets, accident. car is under my parents name, and i pay like $90 a month for liability and vandalism/theft/fire/flood.

that works out to $540 every 6 months. in my own name, a Z28 or trans am through State Farm would be $530 every 6 months.

I'm 21 and pay $202/month for my insurance. No tickets, no nothing... for comprehensive/collision/etc.

It also didn't help that I didn't get my license until I was 19 and according to the ins. co. I've only got "one year" of experience... bleh. Try to get insurance policies renewed as close to the day you got your license issued.

Due to the higher (10.5:1) compression on the LS1, Premium gas is (HIGHLY) recommended, otherwise the knock sensor will pull timing out and hurt your performance. If you figure $0.20/gal more for premium vs. regular, on a 15 gallon fill up thats only $3/tank more per fillup.

Just for the record, I got 17mpg city and 28mpg highway (at 85mph) in my old '96 V6, and I get 15 city and 26 highway (at 85mph) in my Z28, and my insurance is dirt cheap, but I'm married, 25 (in 3 days), own a home, have flawless credit, a clean driving record and live in BFE. I pay less for both myself and my 20 year old wife on all 3 vehicles than most of you pay for your V6.
