Or the 3,500+ HP 4350cid 28 cylinder "corncob engine". The only flying example of the super corsair came to minnesota a few years ago. Absolutly the coolest sounding internal combustion engine I've ever heard. The pilot said he didn't like flying it because the torque on take off was "frightening".
Warbirds rule. I have always been a huge WWII aviation history buff. Its a big part of the reason I became a pilot. That and the fact that I owe my very exsitance to the P&W R2800.
BTW the R2800 produced 2,800hp with water injection at 60in/hg on the turbosupercharged P-47M, the fastest piston fighter of WWII(504mph).

Same here. I grew up w/ four friends and we became hooked because of a game called 'Axis and the Allies'. The greatest board game ever invented. We played that game for over 15 years and still do to this day.
i love ww1 and ww2 i think im obsessed. thats some very interesting war stuff when you think of the fact that they are the first real modern wars with tanks and planes and stuff. i love history in general though.

If you like planes, try Il2 Forgotten Battles with the Aces Expansion Pack. Then the soon to be released Pacific Fighters.
Fighter Ace is an awesome WWII flight sim. Only $10 a month, and well worth it. </font>[/QUOTE]IL2 movies
I love WWII as well. I know it sounds anti-patriotic, but I am facinated with the Nazi party. It was wrong of them to kill all those jews, but the rest of the party was really cool to me. Never before has an entire nation had soo much esprit de corps. THier technology was awsome too. AMerica would never have made it to space if an ex nazi scientist didn't build all of our rockets for us.
I love the aircraft. My favorites were the ones that were introduced too late in the war to have an effect.
F7F tigetcat
F8F bearcat
ME 262
Arado 234B (Favorite)
Being a professional pilot has helped me to appreciate how cool these aircraft really were. My 160hp cessna skyhawk sucks compared to them.
I can't wait to become a pilot for the Marine corps to carry on the legacy.

The best there is for the money.
IL2 FB is a stand alone game. Not compatable with the first IL2.
Il2 FB AEP is the first expansion. Pacific Fighters, which has just gone gold, is a expansion/stand alone. You don't need FB to play, and it has 40 flyable aircraft.

The aircraft is the F2G and the name of the motor is R4360 (radial, 4360 cuin) Wasp Major. The Corsair is my favorite airplane of all time.

R2800-57: 2800HP at WEP, which is 133% of rated power. (The XP47J was the actual Thunderbolt to go 504mph at WEP, not the M). Sure it was fast, but it sucked fuel down so much that the range was half of the P47D. The official top speed of the M is actually 470mph from the factory. "Tweaks" were responaible for getting the M over 500mph at WEP. The P-47N was really the best variant of the Jug to come out of WWII.
I'd still rather take an F2G prototype, or even a F4U-4, against your P47M... Roll rate pwnz joo.
