My car has 55k miles on it. I pulled the dipstick and the oil is splotchy and has a light brown color. Antifreeze was all over the engine bay and leeking to the ground. Car was smoking white after i parked it. from burning off the anti-freeze/water that got on the motor.
Chet how many miles on it and how much to ship to zip 18036? Any problems with the motor? Why are you selling it?
I fired it up this morning.. it was running normal while it was cold then it heated up and started leeking antifreeze badly. Does this narrow it down to what it could be?
I asked about the water in the oil, because when I look at my dipstick I see the maybe three of the holes filed with oil which should be just right but I can see some oil past the furthest hole. I guess that's why they put the little holes in the dipstick, because it's at an big angle or something?
If I were you I would rebuild the motor with performance parts, but that would run you like at least $2500. I found this site http://www.crateenginedepot.com/store/
They seem to have the cheapest brand new 3.8 crate motors, if you decide to go that route. My car has 136k it's running really well now, but I'm saving up for a rebuild in the future. Maybe I can get a year or two more out of it.
You know there's always a lot of risk involved in buying a used motor, but if you're seriously low on funds then it might be the only option.

do you know where its coming from? is there any smoke? water in the oil isnt a good sign. you may have warped your heads, depending on how much you over heated. water in the oil means your gaskets are usaully toasted and need to be replaced.

it just sounds like a blown head gasket or something you can fix easily. i wouldnt go swapping unless you know there is permanent damage that cant be fixed.
