Well now that GM offers very little to compensate for killing off all of our favorite muscle cars what else is there to buy? Do they really believe "sport" trucks and sedans can really ease our pain?! So far as I see it the following vehicles are GM's best (fastest) products left on the market:
Corvette (duh! but not all of us can afford one!)
Grand Prix GTP (its fast, but its still FWD)
Silverado SS (a very expensive but only decently fast pickup truck, achem the Ford Lightning crushes it!)
GTO (lets face it, it's for old people, its huge, its expensive with no options besides color and tranny)
So what exactly happened to the sub $30k sports car market again GM?! The Solstice is coming out next year but weighing as much as it does and only having 170hp it's going to be a turd like the Miata. Only once they SC it will it be any good, but that's all up in the air still.
So this brings me to my point, the market is open for people like us so why shouldn't we look past GM? You could be evil and buy a Stang, the new models look pretty sweet if you ask me. You could go Dodge (ha, like anyone would do that ;) ) and get boosted Neon... Well not me folks, I'm thinking about changing teams completely and going into the Import market, namely Subaru. We all know the regular WRX is fairly nasty but with the addition of the monster known as the STi, I think Subaru deserves a lot of props for a well made sports car for just over $30k. It's got more goodies and switches than you could ever tire of! My only complaint is the rear wing, I'd have to hacksaw that thing off as I pulled out of the dealership and put something more natural on there, but that's just me!
I've read reports that the Mitsubishi Evolution is both cheaper, slightly faster and more agile than the STi, but not by very much, it'd be a driver's race. But my taste in exterior styling prevents me from maintaining the contents of my stomach when I look at the thing so I can't even consider that. Other imports I've looked at but haven't been throughly impressed by:
Nissan 350z
Mazda RX-8
Honda S2000
All 3 of which have their issues, all discussed in a comparison done by Motor Trend a while back. Other than that what else is there comparable to our breed of cars? Someone let me know cuz my faith is drifting!
