• Would you consider an Import?

Well now that GM offers very little to compensate for killing off all of our favorite muscle cars what else is there to buy? Do they really believe "sport" trucks and sedans can really ease our pain?! So far as I see it the following vehicles are GM's best (fastest) products left on the market:

Corvette (duh! but not all of us can afford one!)

Grand Prix GTP (its fast, but its still FWD)

Silverado SS (a very expensive but only decently fast pickup truck, achem the Ford Lightning crushes it!)

GTO (lets face it, it's for old people, its huge, its expensive with no options besides color and tranny)

So what exactly happened to the sub $30k sports car market again GM?! The Solstice is coming out next year but weighing as much as it does and only having 170hp it's going to be a turd like the Miata. Only once they SC it will it be any good, but that's all up in the air still.

So this brings me to my point, the market is open for people like us so why shouldn't we look past GM? You could be evil and buy a Stang, the new models look pretty sweet if you ask me. You could go Dodge (ha, like anyone would do that ;) ) and get boosted Neon... Well not me folks, I'm thinking about changing teams completely and going into the Import market, namely Subaru. We all know the regular WRX is fairly nasty but with the addition of the monster known as the STi, I think Subaru deserves a lot of props for a well made sports car for just over $30k. It's got more goodies and switches than you could ever tire of! My only complaint is the rear wing, I'd have to hacksaw that thing off as I pulled out of the dealership and put something more natural on there, but that's just me!

I've read reports that the Mitsubishi Evolution is both cheaper, slightly faster and more agile than the STi, but not by very much, it'd be a driver's race. But my taste in exterior styling prevents me from maintaining the contents of my stomach when I look at the thing so I can't even consider that. Other imports I've looked at but haven't been throughly impressed by:

Nissan 350z
Mazda RX-8
Honda S2000

All 3 of which have their issues, all discussed in a comparison done by Motor Trend a while back. Other than that what else is there comparable to our breed of cars? Someone let me know cuz my faith is drifting!

Im mostly gm but not totally, everything i end up buying that i want is g though. Most non gm cars i want are not sports cars, The ones i want are like Bmw 3 series and 5 series and Lexus Is300, The 350z is nice but the only people i see driving them are women. Rx8 looks like a smooth turd to me. Theres not many new cars i want at all. Most of the new cars i want are cars ive heard rumors off, like the viper powered Stratus Rt-10 and the awd Turbo Grand am Gtp

I'm just tired of seeing GM put out 2-3 versions of the SAME car and get away with it. I mean, they're not fooling anybody, a Silverado is the same damn thing as a Sierra and a Sunfire is the same as a Cavalier! And poor Pontiac can't make a car to rival the Vette like it used to with the old T/As! The GTO might share an LS2 with the C6 Corvette in a few years but I guarantee you it will still be 2 seconds slower in the 1/4 mile!

I'll never buy and import. I'm an american guy that drives and buy american cars and bikes. I got my 93 3.4 camaro and thats enought for me right now. But once I get out of college I'm gonna fix up my 67 camaro and then I'm gonna get me an SS Silverado and after thats paid off I'm getting my screaming eagle edition harly v-rod

How about a Saab? They're GM now.

Got to drive one ['01 9-5 SE V6] for about 5 months, it was a hoot. Even if it wasn't the fastest thing on the road, it was really fun to drive. Oh yeah, it's FWD. Never mind...

If I remember right, they're a wholly-owned subsidiary of GM, and have been for at least the last 5 years.

evo RS. don't get a 350pee. They suck. evo RS.

4G63T = lots of aftermarket, NEAR bulletproof reliability(if maintained properly), and really really easy to modify.

on the saab stuff, one of their cars is an impreza WRX wagon clone..AWD turbo..just rebodied..same difference as a camaro/firebird.

i agree, a 350Z is a poor excuse of a roadster/sportscar. they cost what? 30 something K and they are only a high 14 low 15 second car. what a joke. they things good about them though is they are quick, top speed is up there somewhere, they handle pretty good, and they look cool. i would pay max 25K for it

A WRX is not a sports car, its a rally car ;)
i have this buddy whos dad has a WRX and he did alot of a studying before buying. he came to the conclusion that the STI 6-speed is pretty much crap and the WRX tranny is as solid as a rock. along with a couple other things are crap. and in turn, the WRX with a thing or two changed to be as good as the STI will actually be better. im sorry for the lack in detail about what he changed. but anyways, you can look into that if you want a WRX/STI.

I'd drive a stang before i'd drive an import cause you need to support the american economy

a GTO or GTP would be a great car to buy if you want a fast car with some amarican comfort like AC base stock ;)
