• Did i just get owned by a girl???

I was talking to one of my lady friends on the internet telling her how my friend totaled his car tonight (whole dif story, but i dont feel like telling it right now). And i was telling her the damage that was done to it. He broke his side and rear windows, bumper tore off, trunk lid broken right off the arms and crunched in a little bite, the left rear fender is caved in, a little bit of frame damage possible, and also the rear axle was bent a little (the tires were slightly inward at the top).

The car was a 1993 Ford Taurus SHO ...it's front wheel drive.

Now this is what was said

Genny says:
your friends ford taurus doesnt have a rear axel

Genny says:
1993 ford tauruses do not have rear axels

Genny says:
they have independant rear suspension

Genny says:
any car with independant suspension has spindles

I cut out what i said that way if i'm wrong i dont look like and *** and look stupid lol.

Am wrong in thinking that it has a rear axle....or did she just own me with her knowledge? lol

So i'm assuming she's right then?? I wasn't sure if she was right, or just messing with my mind cause she was so persistent.

in 96, it seems that the taurus got a rear 4-link suspension. so it seems before that the suspension was even more primitive. its very possible that the 93 actually has a 'rear axle' but its just a solid piece of metal running between the wheels with the spindles for the wheels on the end.

just because a car is fwd doesnt automatically make it an independent rear suspension.

Considering the Cobra didn't receive IRS until 1999 I highly doubt the 1993 Taurus had it.

Its probably what is concidered a dead beam axle. I guess it is still a rear axle, so I would say you are right.

IRS on a rwd car is a lot different than IRS on a fwd car. Think about it.

Bottom line, its a Taurus, who cares??

Yeah, the car doesn't have a rear axle. The wheels float from the power of nuclear fusion.

Of course the car has a rear axle, it's debatable what kind it has, but it has one lol.

An SHO does in fact have IRS...its a 4 link type setup. I went hunting for pictures of the rear setup...and every one had IRS. Now whether they ALL have/had it thats questionable. ANyhow...all it is..is a hub bolted to a spindle. The wheel bolts to the hub and spins. Not really an anything you can call an AXLE there..But im going with the ITS a taurus who cares.

Hell, it's a Fo**, who cares? You should be more considerate of others on this board and not use the F-word.....lol

Your friend didn't have to wreck the car. All he had to do was give it time and it would've fallen apart on its own

of course the cobra didnt have IRS until recently. its a pain to do with a rear wheel drive. besides, a live axle makes driving fun!

i am surprised that the 93 SHO would have IRS. its possible, you just break the "axle beam" in the middle (although with fords you are more likely to get ford's "wish bone" suspension setup). if it not a 4-link setup, i would expect to see leaf springs and shocks (and probably a swaybar).
