Let RIAA sue me.

They had a round of lawsuits that were completely thrown out because the IP logs were 100% inaccurate.

One case that comes to mind was some old dude, like 70-80 something, was sharing new rock songs. A good lawyer can get that thrown out of court so easily, IP logs aren't accurate.

I'm waiting for someone to go ballistic on RIAA. Seriously, they're digging their own grave. They're gonna sue the wrong person, and their gonna regret it. All their lawsuits are being settle out of court. If any of them went to court, their case would be shot down. Suing your customers is bad publicity.

I will NEVER buy another CD as long as their doing this BS. At first I downloaded because I was a poor bastard, now I'll only download because I refuse to support some money hungry a$$ monkey.

I'm noticing that these lawsuits or settlements are for $3000-$4000 a head. That's a far cry different from the $70 million that they were suing people for a year ago. Perhaps the RIAA is getting in touch with reality.

With the 10,000-ish songs that I've downloaded I wouldn't be all that pissed about being sued for $3000. Beats pissing away $20,000 in useless CDs that have one good song each.

Of course, the RIAA's theory is wrong. If they were to sue me, they'd say 10,000 songs / 10 songs per CD = 1000 CDs, then multiply that by $20 a CD and they've lost $20,000 in potential revenue. But it really doesn't work that way because I'm not confronted with the marginal cost.

If you don't have to pay for something you overuse it... and because you overuse it you can't logically dollarize the amount. That would be like trying to dollarize the food you eat at an all-you-can-eat buffet... "yeah, I had $100 worth in food there!". Um, no, you would not have eaten that much had you been forced to pay for each plate.

Similarly, I would never have paid $20,000 for CDs. I might have bought one a month for the past four years, so that equals $960. But just because I downloaded $20,000 worth in music does not mean I would have paid $20,000 for that same music, so the actual revenue loss is much much lower.

I'm just curious as to how they found out what's on these parents' hard drive without infringing on their privacy. Can't exactly get a warrant for civil court.

I'm going to show some stupidity here, but what is "masked" and how do I do it?

I have it on a drive that only I can see, I don't allow any programs to access it. Therefor, if any Feds see my computer on a network in cyberspace, I'm squeeky clean.

Many programs love showing paths to where mp3s are stored via your registry. That's how MANY get busted. Those programs love writing file paths.

That's ridiculous, sorry. These people have enough money.

That may sound stupid, but I feel it's the truth. Yes, that is their livlihood, but when you are able to buy your dog a diamond studded collar because "he doesn't like anything else", then someone needs to pull you back to reality.
Amen, screw those bigshot cockheads. Honestly, they ruin music with their greed. If you're doing it for the money and not because you love doing it, you don't deserve to be in a position to make money from music. I hate the way that the only popular stuff is the only stuff they play on the radio, and that they pick what it is. Clear Channel has a virtual monopoly, and if I had my way, the federal government would step in and break that junk up. Competition in the market would bring diversity, which would benefit any and every musician/music entusiast around.

Maybe you should be more specific on what relavant is. You posted a general topic which leaves it pretty open..lol.

Most people are just venting frustration cause they hate the way the music industry works.
