I don't know what to do with it
it's supposed to be a CATIA file but I am getting nowhere with it.
I tried to change the filename to .model or .CATpart and bring it in, but no
tried some exchange programs but they don't recognize it.
so any help?
this is def a last ditch effort lol
lol thanks for the help
but seriously though, I really need to know what this crap is
I only started this job like amonth ago, and I really hate looking stupid, but thats where this is headed
Generally a 'flatfile' is another name for a text file. So it sounds like there is some kind of conversion you need to do before the files are usable.

Are they work related files that are sent to you by your collegues? Or are they files that are sent through spam mail? If they are spam, I wouldn't touch them. If you can't open them because you don't know how to, you shou ld ask someone at work if they are work related. Never hurts anyone if you ask.

A file that has no structured interrelationship between its data records. A text document without formatting structure is considered a flat file. For example, a word processing document that has been saved as "text only" is saved without markup tags or formatting elements such as bold, italic or other font specifications and information that specifies what style to make a certain line that is used as a heading. The flat file only contains the lines of text without regard to the visual presentation of the data on the page.
I dont think I am going to get 3d CAD Data out of a text document
but I have some guy that is supposed to walk me through importing it into CATIA so we shall see..
well I got it
it is a CATIA export file
apparantly its an older version (an early v4 I think)
I had to change the extension to *.exp
then decrypt it with PSexchange which creates a fic directory
Then I had to change the extension of the file in the directory to *.model
after all that it finally imports into CATIA
ugh
what a mess
and from Chrysler at that!
I expect better
