SS should NEVER appear on a Corvette. It never has and NEVER should!

yeah, SS may be a package technically but theres a history and tradition to it. ok great, chevy's new slogan is 'an american revolution' but y should we break those old traditions. fcuk no tehy shouldnt call the cobalt super'd a damn ss. nothing reaks of ricer wannabe like that little thing, and ss has a big, rwd, domestic power tradition. i dont wanna see anything that american on that kind of car. if a vette had SS it would seem kinda stupid cuz it never had an ss before.
come to think of it, i'm glad the impala is getting its v-8 back, but i wish the damn thing would go back to rwd.

Impala & Monte Carlo are going back on the Zeta platform which is RWD Small-block platform shared with the next gen GTO and will also be the platform for the next gen Camaro ;)

Mighty Thor: "I thought they were going to label it as the Blue Devil.

They've been testing, tuning, and refining this car for awhile now. Nice to know that it will go on production. "

It was the automotie tabloids that called the undercover vette the "Blue Devil" not GM.

why is it stupid? just b/c it hasnt been done before? "

KBeezy: "SS should NEVER appear on a Corvette. It never has and NEVER should! "

You guys are so rediculous! There already has been an SS vette circa 1957.

Also, my two cents in, I think a super sport would work really well for the vette right now. Both the base model and the z06 have taken great pride in being naturally aspirated. So now they jump out of the norm, supercharge a vette and introduce it with a name uncommon to the vette. This will be a nice slap in the face to everyone who says, "Well if the vette had forced induction..." This thing will kick ***.

The vette is to be the pinacle of GM performance

The SS badge should be reserved for lower models and not the vette.

Just my opinion

The topic of a SS Corvette came up on another board, as well as the badging of the 5th gen camaro. After listening to some respectable sources, I don't think you'll ever find a SS badge on a production Vette.

There is also this idea that SS means the ultimate performance version of a particular model, which is also not the case. Talk to some baby boomers, SS wasn't necessarily the coolest, best performing car. As a matter of fact, the SS option was available on some wagons in the 60s and early 70s. SS did often mean v8, but it was also a trim package too. RS was kind of like a trim package without the performance. ALthough, I think you could combine them in at least '69 to have a 1969 RS/SS Camaro. During the last year for the 4th gen camaro I believe you could also order a rs/z28, rs/ss. But that is beside my point.

Finally, the "z" prefix typically signifies the pinnacle of performance. On camaros it was the z28, on Corvettes it's the z06. I know what you're going to say, "what about the 4th gen SS?" or perhaps the Iroc? Well, in 1993 when the 4th gen debuted the top performing model was called the z28. A few years into the run, GM teamed up with SLP to make an even better model. Renaming the current z28 in the middle of the current model could be potentially disasterous. For a lack of options they called the best model a SS, furthering the idea of SS being the best model.

Now, sticking SS on cars like Cobalt, Impala, Trailblazer seems to make a little more since. Given, they do make efforts to improve the performance on the cars. If SS is just a sticker option, then yes, it is wrong. I think in this day and age, with Civics, and other imports trying to be performance cars, the Cobalt SS does justice to the name.

If you listen to the fbodfather, then it is clear that the next Camaro lineup will be something close to RS,SS,Z28.

whoa, wait a sec... was this thread about Corvettes? Sorry.

Here, I'm not sure you had the time to reread what you originally typed so I'll put it here for you.

There's not much room for misinterpretation here. But if that's how you operate then what am I to assume you meant by telling me to leave this topic? I'm just going to guess you had no idea that car existed and now you're embarrassed that I pointed that out. I wasn't being offensive, but I do think you need to relax.

thats good to hear... about the grand prix and impala goin back to rwd, not the members flaming each other. . thats bad.

the times we live in now are gonna be awesome. now that the car companies can get past those emissions problems without losing horsepower, we've got another late 1960's on our hands. i already know fer sure that that corvette z06 is gonna be a classic. gorgeous car, obscene horsepower, reletively cheap price tag, it doesnt get better than that.
