Just would like to share this with you guys
I would believe it. They did use a ton of cars and some were just dressed up for action shots. They didn't actually mod all the cars because that would just be pointless if the camera wasn't aimed at the engine bay.
The skyline from the second movie has been through multiple owners after the movie and multiple paint jobs. It's a shame too because it use to be the motoRex Blackbird which was badass.

the same kinda of white smoke that comes out of your REAR tires as you leave the line.

I seriously doubt he spun the passenger side tire that much to cause all that smoke and then didn't go anywhere fast. Even if it was FWD only they don't spin that much, barely at all in fact.
More than likely he broke something off the line and took it easy down the quarter.
I have seen more than one FI V6 Fbody car do that at the line and coast to a 17-18 second time.
now me and the mad scientist have got to rip off the manifold, and replace the piston rings you fried.
Still trying to find oil leak on my Camaro, it’s a tough one. I think it is the oil pressure sender myself. Leaking when raving and going into boost....
