You know how you're supposed to bench press your body weight... well, what percentage of your body weight are you supposed to be able to curl? no machines, just putting weight on a bar, picking it up, and curling it.
I am just curious... cause I'm fat and I can curl a pretty high percentage of my body weight.
I can bench about 120% of my body weight, curl about 50-60%. Don't know if thats normal, but just for reference [img]tongue.gif[/img]
And PLEASE tell me you are curling correctly, I swear I saw a guy at the gym yesterday who was curling 110lbs but to do so was bending down at the waist and swinging the bar up to his chest, it was the worst form I've ever seen. :(

My form isn't too bad...
Goldbird saw my form, but of course he found something to complain about [img]tongue.gif[/img] Saying I didn't go down far enough, but I went down to where I was told to go without hurting myself [img]smile.gif[/img]
I bench 135% of my body weight, and curl like 40-50% of my weight. I have no idea what's considered normal for that percentages of weight; I assume it would be pretty spread out as some people tend to concentrate on certain areas more, and some just naturally have an easier time with certain muscle groups (my chest muscles developed really quickly). But I wouldn't think you'll really find a standard as to what you can do since everyone's body is built differently and develop at different paces.

Yeah I was hoping there would be some sort of standard like bench pressing... but I guess not. I am curling 70% of my body weight right now.. I don't even think I can bench that much LOL
Well when I was 190lbs back then I could bench 315lbs, squat 545lbs, shrug 710lbs, deadlift 625lb, curl 185lbs and most of all Donkey Calf Raise 2500lbs. I have it all recorded too and I have a plaque in the gym for being one of the strongest. I did it all naturally, no steriods. But I did it all in bad form.
What did I get out of it. A torn achilles tendon, herndiated disk, permanent lower back pain, Torn tendon on my neck, injured forearm, a jaw that doesn't closes right anymore, knees and elbows in constant pain and a permanent damage to my left rotor cuff.
I not only lifted the most weight but I'm also the most injured individual in the gym. I was in the first name basis with the doctors and chiropractor. My parents were ticked off at me. When you see me I walk with a limp now and I have problem raising my left arm up.
My advice to you. Forget about how you can lift. Just do your form perfectly and not use momentum at all.

i just put up 300 lbs max at my gym. .i weigh 145.. the only thing is that its on a hammer strength machine and not olympic bar.. damn local gym i go to doesnt have the bar and bench.. only hammerstrength machine.. but 300 non th less is pretty good for me. as in curl..
i do strait bar curls using cords.. 100lbs repped 8 times to failure.. then up it 10 lbs per set. havent maxed my biceps or triceps..
i wish i had free weights.

Machines are so much easier.. it is much different using a bar and your own balance [img]smile.gif[/img]
I only have 155 lbs in free weights, plus the bar, which I can curl [img]smile.gif[/img] I don't work out with it though.. I do a lot more high rep/low weight work now.
It is definately making me stronger.. I think being able to curl 70% of my body weight when I have a spare tire is pretty good [img]tongue.gif[/img]
I don't do anything else but work my arms though... I refuse to go to a gym. there is a HUGE gym at my school, but you have to wait in line and **** to use the weights so I'm not going to waste my time. I only want bigger arms anyway hehe
