Cliff notes: GMPartsDirect sucks ***!
Full Story:
This is the 2nd time I've tried ordered from GMPartsDirect, but it will be the last. The first time went smoothly, although slowly. This time is rediculous. I'm trying to order the final few gaskets I need for my heads/cam swap.
To start off with, I wanted to get some new lifters. I figured it would be cheaper to just get stock OEM lifters, rather than going with Comp Cams. Comp Cams OE lifters were $160 on Summit, so I figured I could get OEM ones cheaper...wrong! I go to GMPartsDirect, enter the part number, and see a pack of 8 for $22.84. It's a pack of 8, so I'll have to get 2 of them for $44, with a few left over...no big deal, right? I add 2 packs to me cart, check the price, and see a total of $438.53, including $73.09 for shipping! WTF?!?! $365 for 16 lifters, when I can get them from Comp Cams for $160? And $73 in shipping for something that weighs no more than a pound??? Summit charges 8 bucks for S&H. Can someone explain why the hell I would pay almost $450 for lifters, when I can get better ones for $170 shipped? Note: It says I would have saved $365 by ordering from them. For some reason I find it hard to believe that GM would charge $750 for a pack of lifters.
OK, so I went ahead and bought Comp OEs from Summit, and decided to get the rest of the parts I needed from GMPartsDirect. I had $100 worth of gaskets (including a new fuel pressure regulator and lower intake gasket kit) in the cart. Go through checkout, and it says my order has failed, because the zip code was incorrect. This is a debit card, so I checked my bank account and find that they went ahead and charged me, even though it failed. I double checked the zip code, and of course it was correct. So then I had to wait another 4 days to get my money back.
Just today, I thought I'd give them another chance. I thought maybe I somehow screwed up the order by entering something wrong. Go through the checkout process again, and I get the same result. I only put enough money on that account for these gaskets...so now I've got to wait another 4 days until I can call the local GM dealer to get the parts I need.
