  • I got laser eye surgery today....

I got PRK done this afternoon. It was pretty wierd. I can't see very well right now, so excuse any typos,

They made me put on a showercap for some reason, and they put numbing eye drops in my eyes. Next I had to go to one of those optomertrist macines and get some sort of measurements done.

The laser itself looked like a scanner from the grocery store. I laid under it on a bed and the doc went to work on me. He put a spreader on my eyelids, that spread them really far apart. That was the only painful part. next they put about 10 different eye drops on my eyes.

Yhe doc said he had to polish my eye. so he started doing something with a q tip and some other wierd stuff on the surface of my eyeball. By this time I couldn't see anything out of the eye he wsa working on. THey told me to stare at a red blinking light, which i could hardly see. That is when they started shooting the "laser".

I could barely see it out of my peripheral vision. It was a pink and blue beam of light. It sounded just like a light saber from star wars. when it first started, it was just making a buzzing sound, but once it touched my eye it made that cracking sound that light sabers make in battle. There was an awful smell of buning hair. It is wierd to smell your eyeball burning. I couldn't feel anything though.

After they did both eyes, I got some goofy grandpa sunglasses and a slew of eyedrop medication. I have been sleeping all day.

My vision is defiantley better, but I have to wait a week before it is really good. It is blurry right now, since my eyeball surfaces are all cut up. It doesn't hurt at all though.

My GF got to watch the whole thing. THey had a camera zoomed into my eyes, so she saw in detail exactly what happened. SHe said it was wierd watching the lazer cut across my eyeball. If anyone wants, I can get her to tell about it in a post. Too bad I don't have any pictures.

Yeah, I saw it on TV too, looked kinda nasty. It would definitely be nice to have though. I never take my contacts out (like once a month to change em), so getting surgery would probably benefit my eyes health.

i'm still waiting for the femtosecond laser to become more commonplace. The current practice right now for lasik is to put your eye under suction, mount a giant train track to it, and roll the pizza slicer over it to open up your cornea. No thanks.

I'll wait for the pinprick laser to do the job thank you very much.
