Sexuality reseach paper topic!!

Ok ... so I am in a class called Human Sexuality ... awesome class. But, we have a research paper. It can be ANYTHING sex related, as long as it's sex with humans, no animals (my professor made this very clear, haha). Anyway, any topic ideas? I was going to try to do something like sex toys, or the myth about how certain positions can help make babies. I want a fun topic, something interesting, but at the same time ... important enough to be able to research.

I'm also doing two speeches (a 20 minute one for my Abnormal Psych class, and a 5 minutes one for my Speech class) on Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Anyone have this? Stories to share?

Oh, do one on masturbation. Always a good topic that you can find much research for, especially whether it is considered moral and what not.

How about abnormal events that can during sex and the effect they have on a sexual relationship... perhaps researching a Donkey Punch or a Dirty Sanchez or a Flying Squirel or a Hairy Gorilla.

You can use Bern's argument, that Pornography/excessive sexual acts are the downfall of democracy.

He argues that shame is needed in a democracy, and w/o shame anarchy will happen. You can talk about everything, from founding fathers intentions for democracy, crazy sexual positions, if porn really takes away from shame... blah blah.

I was thinking about the masterbation idea already ... I'm sure there is a ton to find. I was trying to think of how I could tie the sex toys idea into that also. Hmmm ... thanks Matt.

here's a few ideas niky...

I like the masterbation and sex toys thing. Do like a survey... and see how many people use toys, which they prefer, and do they like masterbation better with the toys or with out.

as to lesbian sex... I always wondered how someone can be bisexual.. i mean hell if you like women and you are a woman then, you are a LESBIAN!! if you are a guy and you like men, even though you like women too... YOU ARE A HOMO!!! it's that clear.

Also, do something about fantasies... like what is the most common fantasy. OR something related to like most popular places to get it on, and why people enjoy it in that place so much.

Or you can do a informative piece on what women like and dislike sexually... to give men some info and us.. well a better sex life! :-D i dunno just some ideas... hehehe sounds like fun!!

I think I am going to do masterbation .. the history of it, how it's changed, the new 'trends.' I just don't know where to find the actual research, or what my thesis would be. Hmmm ... keep the ideas comin'!! [img]smile.gif[/img]

If you wanted to do serious stuff and fun stuff, you could always do the fun stuff and then try to segway into the difference in feelings about the fun stuff between people who were harmed sexually in some way - I would imagine that (for male or female), sex would be less "fun" and would be more inhibited for someone who had previously been through rape, molestation, etc. Sorry if this seems depressing, my minor in college was the sociology of women's health or some such thing and I'm pretty sure someone did something on this.

But the reason I suggest it is to show that sexual abuse damage (in any of its forms) also has a ripple effect for the victim throughout their whole life - i mean, I can't even imagine not being able to enjoy sex

Don't know if that's something you want to go too deeply into - it is pretty heavy, but thought I'd suggest it.

Or do what Jess said - a fun piece on sex that could act as a guide for men and women on the opposite sex.

There are many psychologists who have studied masturbation and other sexual practices. Kinsy or Kensy or something to that effect, had over 5000 interviews with people about their sexuality and published his findings in a couple books.

Im all about case studies. Much better for writing a paper than reading some old farts scientific article on sex. ;)

BTW, I think either HBO or Showtime had a special not too long ago about masterbation and support groups/ masterbation clubs.

Well actually this "old fart" has one of the best research studies on sexual activity I've ever seen. Its what happens when you take a taxonomist and get him to talk to people about sex. Case study is nice... however I'd rather have 5000 interviews to find statistics from then 5 case studies. You don't learn enough to write a research paper on from doing a case study, too narrow minding and doesn't represent anyone except the one person you grilled. Also the case study takes too damn long for a class research paper lol.
