Let's see what the founding fathers thought about gun control

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
Seems clear enough to me.

full automatic or semi-automatic? an automatic handgun would continue to fire while the trigger is pulled (which would be an assault weapon i believe and therefore illegal).

as for knives, they should simply be banned. there is no reason any sane and reasonable person would need a knife. knives arent a right guaranteed by the bill of rights so this should be easy to get into law.

This is all fine and good and I dont advocate banning guns - but the UK has banned guns and has very little gun crime...
whats the explanation for that in your opinion?

england's violent crime rate has steadily increased. since australia banned guns, their violent crime rate skyrocketed. when only criminals have guns...

when we recover one, it's usually one of the cheapo jennings or hi-points. sometimes we get a revolver. a few weeks ago we got a nice colt python and before that a glock. but in the overall scheme, those .25s are usually purchased by people who want a very cheap home defense gun. criminals get them when they break into your home and rummage through your underwear drawer. most of the time people don't have the serial numbers so you can't enter the gun as stolen. when it's recovered, it's unknown whether it was stolen or not. most of them are.

suffice it to say, we don't find a huge amount of guns.

the automatic for .25 ACP rounds refers to the autoloading feature (or so i think). automatic with respect to a handgun (or pistol) would mean continuous fire which would be illegal. the media generally calls all semi-auto's 'automatic'. this gives the wrong idea to the general public about the legality of handguns.

are they looking to annoy someone? get a .357magnum revolver. depending on what kind of stopping power you need there is a wide range of ammo it can fire from .38 all the way to .357magnum.

The Scottish Executive cite similar statistics about the drop in gun crime in England to bolster their case, but I havent seen any specific studies - so I am reluctant to comment. And the bans are different between the areas.

With that said, what about America makes a ban impractical and probably do more harm than good?
