• assault weapon ban, your opinion

Now let's not get this all political and stuff and get it locked, but what is your opinion on the assault weapon ban?

My feel is that it is kinda dumb. Think about it, are criminals and terrorists gonna buy guns legally and traceable? What sense would that make?

I see a deer rifle as just as dangerous, just you have to swap clips more. If you are capable of affording, servicing, and are generally a good person, it hurts nothing to have an assault weapon.

After all, ban or not they will be out there and the illegal ones might even be fully automatic.

I might be a little biased though cause a good friend of mine has a british L1A1 FAL (semiauto), AK47(semiauto), and several other guns, and in reality most people that own guns like he does just shoot them at targets (and is it a fun to do that!). I still say terrorists and criminals will get them, ban or not, so there might as well be no ban for those of us that are responsible.

While I don't really feel like the average citizen has any need for an AK-47 or an AR-15, I fully support their constitutional right to own one. I agree that a ban on assault weapons will not lower assault weapon crime. The vast majority of gun crimes in this country are committed with illegally-obtained weapons. What we need to do is enforce the laws that we already have. I'd like to see a crackdown on black-market gun sales and harsher penalties for crimes committed with guns, especially stolen or illegally-obtained guns. When you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns.

banning weapons wont solve crime. If you realy want to kill someone u could do it other ways

I think semi-automatic rifles and machine guns are often confused. Machine guns have been stricly regulated since the 1930's. Has anybody actually looked at what is considered an assault weapon? A rifle is considered an "assault weapon" if it can accept a detachable magazine, and possesses two or more of the following features:
</font>
• Folding or telescopic stock</font>
• Pistol grip protruding conspicuously beneath the stock</font>
• Bayonet mount</font>
• Flash suppressor or threaded barrel</font>
• Grenade launcher</font>

None of these features have anything to do with the operation of a rifle. They're all basically aesthetic qualities. The ban was enacted to because of fear of weapons that basically looked like machine guns. Grenade launchers and the like have already been regulated for some time.

I'm actually about to purchase a MAK-90 (AK-47 variant,) and I'm trained and qualified with an M-16. I think gun control is important, but the Assault Weapon Ban did nothing but ban rifles that looked scary to the public.

If someone breaks into my house, I would prefer a semi-auto assualt rifle, over my hunting rifle

the proposed ban with its wording turns all rifles and shotguns with a detacheable clip into an 'assault rifle' its rediculous. its just another step to take away the right to keep and bear arms. nothing more.

i have a semi-automatic ak-47 as well. i think the ban on assault weapons is dumb. like what's already been stated, bad guys are going to get the guns reguardless of a ban. banning weapons only hurts the people who follow the law.

Bans are a bit silly - but the assault weapon ban I have mixed feelings on.

In general, I think we need more strict laws not about PURCHASING guns, but rather keeping track of the ones that have been produced.

I am a firm supporter of the second amendment, and always will be.

I live in Upper Michigan, and hunting is a HUGE past time here.

While I don't believe there is a need for automatic or semi-automatic weapons for MOST people, I don't believe taking them away (against the law) is anyone's right.

However, I do think that the checks they perform on the people before selling it to them should continue. Safety is always important.

But like others have said, if someone REALLY wants to get one, even if they are banned, they will get one.

I'm sure the criminals would decide to use some other type of weapon because, after all, assault weapons would be illegal.

Ban "assault weapons"? If you do that, people will find other weapons, just ask the Palistinian people who fight with rocks half the time. Imagine trying to ban rocks and sticks... :D

I'm against the assault weapons ban, but all for enforcing the currently existing laws on people who choose not to follow the law or use weapons incorrectly. Well, let me restate. There's no need for grenade/rocket launchers to be in the hands of the common citizen. Leave the semi-auto category of rifles/handguns be, though. I've killed less people with my legally owned rifles/shotguns/pistols than Ted Kennedy has killed with his car...

i think we should ban those $100 .25 automatics. i find those all the time. i've never found an assault rifle.

i think the ban is ridiculous. all it did was remove my cool bayonet. whooptie doo.

should we ban cars because the potential exists that it could be used to run someone over by a criminal? no. why ban a gun because it has the potential to kill someone if used by the same criminal? less than 2% of all gun crimes involve an assault weapon.

i have a CETME, an AK, an FAL, and an SKS with intent to buy plenty more. they are a blast to go out and shoot.

using a gun in a crime should be an automatic mandatory sentence. why punish someone who hasn't done anything yet?

and for the record, i've been to more stabbings than shootings.
