• Mysteriously vanishing garbage can lids

This is a strange phenomenon that has been happening over the last few weeks. It seems like every time the garbage cans for our building go out for pick-up, somehow we end up with exactly one less garbage can lid.

It's been four weeks now and all four cans are lidless.

The situation is made worse by the fact that my new downstairs neighbors are slobs. They throw their garbage out there in the lidless cans and leave it there for sometimes 2 weeks because they're too lazy to put it out on garbage day.

Now our yard is literally infested with squirrels who have decided that our garbage can shack is an altar of worship and that we are two legged deities who reward their praise with an endless supply of food scraps.

It's disgusting. They run around the yard with pieces of bread, nuts, old paper towels, or whatever else they found of interest in the lidless cans. One of them had a chicken bone! I hope they don't develop a taste for flesh, because I think that ten or fifteen of them, given the element of surprise, could easily take down a grown human.

You should see my back yard. We had some snow this week and the entire yard is nothing but prints. There are a few larger prints too, so I'm now wondering if we dont have something bigger getting into the cans at night.

    Ugh.

At least you don't have to worry about racoons. They get into the trash no matter if there's a top on it or not. Then they set themselves up a buffet all across our yard.

Yeah, it's called the Board of Health! :D They will fine them for the mess. As for the squirrels, just feed them some peanut butter sandwiches and they'll leave the trash alone. Other than that, I'd say get some new lids, and put a camera out there so you can find out who's stealing them.

Get new cans with flip-top lids. Someone would have to work pretty hard to make the lids disappear.

last year someone stole one of my trash cans. Seriously, who steals a trash can? So I bought new ones and spray painted the sh** out of them so they looked like a$$. No-one has taken them, and if they did, I would know which ones were mine.
