Cadillac and saab are designed to compete with BMW and Mercedes. The think the gto is designed to go after chrysler's new muscle cars like the charger. </font>[/QUOTE]Yea, but the GTO was out before the charger. I think I remember lutz saying the GTO was suppose to go after the 3 series.

If it's the latter then, that seems like a bad marketing decision, having two similar sports car competing against each other in the same company.
At least GM is giving Pontiac something to work with. They see it from this perspective.
Someone is going to buy either a Camaro or GTO, but thats bad because there is competition between two different branches within the same company, right? Wrong, the money goes to GM either way.

^^ that wierd i wonder if they are trying to keep it in the first gen way. becasue in the modern ones its been v6 < Z28 < SS but someone was telling me back in the 1st and maybe second gen the z28 was more powerful or the higher end version not the ss.
Reports of the GTO's death are greatly exaggerated! According to GM Vice President Bob Lutz, the Pontiac GTO will return in 2008, alongside the 2008/2009 Chevrolet Camaro. Lutz told AutoWeek at the Geneva Motor Show today that the GTO will share the Zeta architecture with the new Chevrolet Camaro and Holden Monaro. Like the last ill-fated GTO, the 2009 GTO will be engineered jointly by GM in North America and Holden in Australia. Lutz said the new GTO project was only on hold for two months, but has since been revived. Lutz also said the rear-wheel-drive Zeta platform will be used for a new Chevrolet Impala, Monte Carlo, and an all new Buick model called the "Statesman." Lutz said a new El Camino could come by 'putting a Chevrolet face' on a Holden Ute, but that's unlikely at this time. The GTO and related programs, however, are back on "full tilt."
