Anyone have any experiance with frostbite?

My girlfriend got frostbite a few days ago, both feet.

It's not looking too good I guess, she went to the hospital and they warmed her up and removed the dead skin. After she got home, she ended up going back and they removed more. Then everything seemed fine until today, she lost feeling in both feet and went back to the hospital. I don't really know the odds of her being fine or not. When I talked to her she was upset and I couldn't really get the info out of her. But it doesn't sound good. Gangrene and amputation and all that horrible stuff are very real possibilties.

Has anyone had severe frostbite or know anyone who has? I have searched the web and haven't found that great of information.

I feel so horrible for her. Any information would be most helpful, thanks.

What was the situation of how she got the Frostbite, I'm just curious.

Icy roads and slid into a ditch (she lives in the middle of nowhere) and had to walk a long way home. Got home took her shoes off and her feet were white not pale but white.

Her doctor thinks she is going to be ok, she has to go see him alot so he can keep the blood flowing. There is a risk that parts might have to be removed if they don't respond to treatment. Hopefully that won't have to happen only time will tell. And even if it does it's still much better than what we feared from the start.

She seems to be handling it well and I'm trying to keep her happy and optimistic, because I do believe that goes a long way to aiding in recovery, the human body is an amazing thing and if you tell yourself you will be fine and really believe it if your body has any say it in it will help.

She's in alot of pain right now, but while I wish she wasn't I'm glad she is, pain means feeling, feeling means functioning nerves, fuctioning nevres mean bloodflow.

makes you feel good my grandfather had bad frostbite in WWII almost amputated his legs, but he came through, and they fixed him up. And that was 1940s medicine.

It was a '96 Ranger.

She spent yesterday in the hospital, they just kept her for evaluation and probably did stuff to keep the blood flowing well.

It sounds like she is going to be ok, I mean she is able to walk around and is going to school and stuff. Her doctor is pretty sure she will be fine, I haven't really had an update lately, but last I heard the doctor said 90% chance she would be just fine... the other 10% is they may have to remove small area if they don't regain blood flow because they would spread.

I wish her the best of luck in the 90% margin. Ive only had a few mild cases of fristbite where I've lost feeling in my fingertips or toes for a day or two at most, its painful but never that bad. Now I always keep a pair of knee-high insulated boots, hat mittens and a heavy jacket in my trunk.
