I paid $140 for the mobo and I only got the AGP because my old mobo burned out too (which I suspect was the fault of the cheap psu that came with the case) and the only socket 478s I could find were AGP.

I bought a brand name 430W psu, it was $50 but well worth it. When I had my stock psu, and old ti4400 when I would play games the screen would sometimes go on and off even though the psu was rated at more then enough wattage. Cheap psus make dirty power.
I dunno, I have a generic 400w PS, I've had it for 3 years now and I do video editing on that machine. I'm sure he can find a PCI-E mobo for about the same price.

          How about this

          http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811147001

Rosewill makes pretty good quality stuff and it averages 5/5 out of almost 300 reviews. A good 400W should be enough for everything you're running.

The cpu fan and heatsink will come with the cpu and the case will come with fans.

I just built a desktop for myself with a Biostar 6100 754 socket and it is a really nice motherboard. It has a pci-e slot and many overclocking features. I dont game though, so I cant tell you how it performs there. It cost like 75 bucks.

y'know depending on your budget, I know your partial to asus but I had always been using gigabyte with no problems, I recently switched to MSI for my new 939 socket dual core 3800+ ya I wanted something a bit higher end....and can you still buy a 32bit processor, in amd that is...I know most of the motherboards arent being made anymore, they're trying to get everyone to go 64 bit....oh ya and if you want a case you'll never have to replace, go with antec, it might break your budget but they are by far IMO the best on the market...most come with psu's but I picked my 550w neohe antec up from new egg for like 90$....my video card is almost the cheapest you can buy, so I cant tell you anything about gaming.....I know I use my 2 monitors on it though....good luck, just do alot of research try and find some reviews, thats what I did and saved me alot of money....

I had major problems with gigabyte. I replaced just about everything just to realize it was my mobo that was the problem.

don't get a sony cd burner. DVDs hold a lot more data on one disc roughly 6 CDs worth. And most new games are available on DVD versions with one disc to install instead of about 4. Plus you can watch movies on your 22".

                    get this
                    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827152059

NEC DVD burner that also burns CDs at 48x, and it's $40. just check the reviews on it, it's one of the best.

I have one and it's sweet.

Make sure your new case has good cooling and you'll might want an aftermarket cpu heatsink/fan.

newegg, asus motherboard, corsair memory, amd processor, i would go with ATI graphics, westen digital sata hard drive, thermaltake cases are good. dont forget to get a better heatsink and fan, oem are generally junk. good luck

Since everyone pretty much already has you helped out, lemmie bring up something else. Just because you buy something thats a season old (not the latest in greatest) doesn't mean you can't be running those speeds. I'd factor in a better heatsink for the CPU (SI-97, SI-120) and a video card cooler, then overclock. Right now I'm running a AMD Athlon 64 4000+ at 2.76ghz Prime95 Stable with 38C idle 46C load temps, and I've got my 9800XT O/C'd quite a few MHZ higher on stock cooling. I have no problem playing the latest and greatest (Doom 3, FEAR, BF2, EQ2, WoW, etc) on high settings. Just something to factor in, if you want to take the route.

                            Heres a setup for you!
                            Newcastle athlon 64 3000 socket 754 $117.00

                            Gigabyte nforc3 250 mobo $57.00

                            1 gb ddr400 $169.99

Geforce 6800gs AGP vid card $186.99

Western Digital 120gig hard drive $66.00

All that for close to $500!

Dont waste your hard earned money on a Athlon xp, the 64's perform way way better for the price!

I have a 64 3400 cpu, and a 6800gt agp card. It runs FEAR decently smooth on high settings without soft shadows.
