• Pulling engine in car (final words and any advice!)

Hey guys, my camaro was totaled a few months back and been sitting infront of the shop ever since. I was going to sell the car to a guy at my work for like $300 because I had no time to fool with it, he never came up with the money and my boss wants it out so I am going to strip the entire thing. Most of it is stripped already. But tomorrow i'm going to be pulling the engine. I already drained the a/c and coolant and all the fluids. I never pulled an engine before so I have no clue what i'm really in for. I figure, disconnect the DS and tranny brace, undo the motor mounts (this is with the hoist connected) and undo anything else like connectors and stuff. Is it really hard pulling out the engine with the tranny connected? and is there any advice you guys can give?

    Thanks, Ted

lol, i guess i have all day tomorrow to figure it out. I'm just a little worried because where I was hit, it smashed the pass. fender well in a little bit, so theres not that much clearance to work with.

pull the radiator & sell it. plus it gives you that much more room (in front)

Also, disconect the braided ground strap from engine to firewall.

Your not going to pull the engine and tranny out the top. Its not possible on our cars really. Drop the tranny out the back then pull the engine, or drop everything out the bottom which is easier.

Do you have access to a lift? "If" you do, dropping the motor with tranny from underneath would be a better.

Well, I do have access to a lift, BUT* my car was hit so hard on the side that I can't move it and it's sitting out infront of the shop, so all I have are jack and stands really. I started pulling off everything yesterday, i'm going to go back tomorrow and maybee take the upper and lower intake off and stuff like that. I'm running outta time to pull the tranny and engine. Plus I don't have a truck, so it's hard to rent a hoist and stuff. Oh well, i'll just get what I can. Thanks guys!

Look i adv tech. SOmeone put their car on stands as high as possible, then used a cherry picker to support the car while he dropped the engine/tranny from underneath. Just had to tilt either the engine or the car some for clearance when pulling the engine out.

Damn I'm glad I have a third gen car :D
