What you need is a computer built only for games and Windows XP configured for optimal running.

To play ultra high graphics.

I have a pentium 4 3.0 GHZ, 512 ram and a Geforce FX5200

I can bearly play the game on medium graphics.

:(

to get to Ultra mode you have to have a vid card with 512mb of RAM. you also have to have a northwood or a athlon 64 bit. and I think, not too sure but I think a gig of system ram

you can bypass it and run Ultra on any system with gobs of memory and a fairly high end car right now. I made my boy force his to run in Ultra and he has a 6800gt and a gig of mem. he turned on 4x AA too and it run perfectly

Yeah, what are the system requirements?
Not that you'd be able to play it, but:

1GHz CPU
256MB RAM
GF1 or Radeon 7xxx series card
</font>
Nope. I'm just paraphrasing the requirements but: 1.5GHz CPU, 2.5GB HDD space, 64MB Video card (Radeon 9XXX series or higher).

I'm playing it on a 1.4GHz P4 with a Radeon 9600SE. Not too bad, but it slows down a bit. Playing it on meduim detail at 640x480.

Fun game, still feels like Doom, and even I've jumped 3-4 times playing it for 3 hours last night. One situation had me yelling "Oh *explitive*!"
</font>
I just got that from a search on yahoo. Those were released before the game, so I guess they changed it. Oh well.

Doom 3 visual/framerate tweaks. Friend did it to his 9700pro and it worked great he said.

OR
Find the line:
seta image_cacheMegs "32"
set that to 1/4 of yer total RAM
that's in doomcinfig.cfg in the base/ dir btw

I run a ti4200 GF4 still and it runs fine on medium settings, no slow down or anything
