Yes, manufacturers are competing once again for the right to own the throne. BMW now has there 500 horsepower M5, but in fact this v10 5 litre motor only makes a 383 ft pounds of torque. So don't expect anything greater than a C5 vette when it comes to its power/speed performance.

But overall, everyone that is a BMW freak will be busting their nuts over the 500 "sh*t" horsepower M5

Just like the RX8, 250 horsepower! And the car pulls an average of 15+ second times.
It's because the car only makes 150 ft pounds of torque at 8000 rpm.

The ME412 is 850,000 dollars. A little too much for me. They've had it going 212 mph in 5th gear, they still got 2 to go

ive seen the ME412 all over Speed Channel auto show coverage. i did not know it had a quad-turbo setup...thats awesome!

As far as I'm concerned, all the BMWs, Porsches, Ferraris, Jaguars, Lamborghinis, etc. dont count int the muscle car war. A "muscle car" IMO is an American manufactured small/lightweight car stuffed with that manufactures biggest powerplant, mounted to a manual transmission, then routed into a RWD differential. Don't get me wrong, I love european sports cars (probably more than muscle cars) and i would rather be on a race track than a drag strip. BUT muscle car will out accelerate a sports car in a straight line (in most cases. after all, thats what they were designed to do) but enter the twisties and a sports car will embarrass a muscle car in handling. Period. (thats what they were designed to do)

today however this line has blurred somewhat. The muscle cars get a little quicker in the corners, while the sports cars get a little more torque under the hood (or rear hatch). So IMO this new HP war is even better than the famous HP war of the 60's

I bet a '71 AAR 'Cuda could out handle a lot of todays "sports" cars. Cornering did come into the mind of the builders of the muscle cars, they were not only trying to promote oval track racing, but Trans Am racing also. For some reason everybody puts a cloud over american cars that just rains "bad handling" all day, when in fact its not true.

i kind of doubt that. while i will admit some muscle cars did have decent handling. for ex. Firebird, Camaro, Transam, Mustang, Cuda, etc.
these were pony cars designed for like you said trans am racing. however, compare it to the modern european sports cars of today...u can't. how many muscle cars could do over 1 lateral g on stock tires?

I dont know, how about we give them the tires of today? Not some crabby tires that they had back then. Then it might be a fair comparison. Its funny to think they handled that well on 7 inch wide pieces of ****.
