  • So how do Car Magazines test cars

I got several collection of V6 F-cars featured on different magazines. Motortrend tested the V6 Camaro to be at 15.7 in a quater mile. Road and Track tested it at 15.4 and Autoweekly at 16.1.

The same can be said about the handling and such, it varies.

So they run it several times right? And then get the best et. Or, do they run it several time and get the average?

I've always been curious about that.

    How's this for ya:

1994 HPP mag test of new V6 droptop:

No track time, but " mating the weakest powerplant and the heavisest body style ensure that it weill make it out of it's own way. ~ Tested a 93 v6 hardtop, and got 17.07@78 last yr, so a 200lb heavier car should do about 17.3"

ALso interesting side bar on the comparison to teh mustard v6 conv.

well from what I have heard and understand all the runs they do are at sea level and they do like 10 runs and pick the top three and average them out.

From my knowledge, lots of times magazines use professional drivers, and run considerably lower times than an average driver.

Yeah some do...and some don't. Cause motor trend or car and driver hit a 13.5 or 13.4 in a SS and a stock one ran a 13.0 at the track...so it is just more of a ball park number to give you an idea of what you might be running at.

Magazines LOVE German/Japanese cars and hate on the american cars like the Mustang and F-body. YET when they reviewed the GTO, they said "why take away our faster and cheaper F-body for this bloated Austrian import"

At least they said the LS1/LT1s were the "best bang for the buck" from '93-02.
