You would hit terminal velocity long before 1100MPH. Thats a load of BS. Oh...and about the temperature....USE UNITS....you are arguing in different units which is retarded.

A) There was no arguing.
B) It was all in Farenheit.

I'm no physics expert, but I recall terminal velocity of a human body to be around 126mph or so? So what are they surrounding him with that changes his body area enough to enable this feat?? And wait, then that takes away from the statement that it is done without any vehicle or bosy around him. I'm gonna guess that this will not work out, or at least their predictions and half-*** math will fall apart.

At low altitudes, yes. ;)
But at high altitudes, the air is much less dense, so terminal velocity is faster. The speed of sound is also lower, so you would approach Mach 1 at a lower speed.

So the higher up you are. the faster you can go, got it. But then the faster you get going, the lower you are, and all of a sudden your TV is much slower than at 1000000 feet. Do the math for us...If I had the forumulas I'd do it (math major), but I got nothin'. What's the absolute, best case scenario, highest velocity this guy is going to achieve?

That's where it starts getting tricky.

I calculated the Coefficient of Drag of a body in the skydive position to be about .039455. I also guess that the surface area is about 1 square meter.

For a 170 pound person, I calculated the force of gravity at 80,000 ft to be 760 Newtons.

Using a density of .4008 (80,000 ft was the highest this chart went), the terminal velocity would be 693 mph @ 80,000ft.

The only problem is that it would take 30 seconds to get to that speed, so you'd be much lower in the atmosphere by then...which makes my calculations wrong.

If I had Matlab or Maple I could graph these and get a better answer, but I don't have them here.

If you want the equations I used, let me know. I just used the standard drag and gravity equations.

I'm bored here, but not THAT bored The numbers they were throwing around just didn't seem possible at all...Sounds like you enjoy what you're doing at school and such...that's nice to see!

OK, I was real bored and decided to write a C program to calculate it all out. Here's the results:

http://home.cfl.rr.com/mkaprocki/TerminalVelocity.txt

On a jump from 100,000 feet:
Max speed is 632 MPH at 86,000 feet.

If someone else is really bored and wants to see temperature and mach numbers, let me know (I doubt anyone cares).

Here's the source code for those interested:
