  • im curious to see what everyone thinks

I am curious. Over the years street racing and high horsepower cars/sports cars period have been targeted more and more by police. Years ago street racing was never heard of on the news. People went out to the middle of nowhere on back roads and did their thing. Ofcourse there was stop-light to stop-light action, but nothing compared to what goes on today, especially with all the police "cracking down" on "street racing, street racers, and non-street legal cars" ... So what do YOU all think is the MAIN reason for so much attention from the police?

F&F movies? People not thinking before they do something? Violence in the race scene (yes, it happens) ?? Theres WAY too many people doing it? Too many accidents from inexperienced drivers? What do YOU all think.

High profile accidents caused by underaged/underskilled drivers. They've seen it in the movies and thought it was cool, and just like the dumbasses who set their house on fire cuz they saw Beavis & Butthead playing with matches, they go out and kill someone racing their 110hp Honda at 100mph.

I'm not blaming movies/tv, nor do I think they should outlaw movies & tv shows depicting street racing... I'm not a hippie idiot. I do think that teens need to have better driving education and it should be stricter for them to get their drivers licenses.

Drivers ed should be a year long and mandatory for licensing. I think it should involve everything from snow driving (where applicable) to mastering manual transmissions. It should teach how to properly and safely tow different kinds trailers, and especially how to back them up. My drivers test was a joke! I drove 2 blocks, parallell parked, and drove 2 blocks back. That was IT! My drivers ed class was 6 weeks long and I already knew everything they tought because I lived in the country and was driving tractors & trucks & sh*t since age 12.

All in all it boils down to common sense.

F&F movies, think back before that movie came out how many ricers there are/were.

also, there are more "old cheap" cars out there.

it might be the economy also.

I just think its the immaturity level of the common street racer. 90 % of the time they are just dumb ****s who need to be thrown behind bars and have their car siezed anyways. I for one have never been caught street racing.. I normally dont like to do it because down here in Florida...especially south florida.. your more than likely to be cut off by an old person who cant see over the steering wheel, or just some dumb broad who can't get off her cell phone (is the truth, not a sexest comment)

the problem is it isnt always the racers that die.

I think the main reason police are "cracking down" more is that more people are doing it. Sure, some of it is b/c they watch F&F and dumb movies like that and then go race. But not all street racers are in riced out civics. There are plenty of dumbasses in american sports cars that go out and drive like idiots too. 16 year old who's mommy and daddy by them an fbody or mustang, kid didnt pay for it so doesnt have the full appriciation of how much money and work it is to save for a car like that, they just know its fast and go out and race.

I get tired of people blaming tv and movies when **** happens. Doom the video game didnt make little johnny take a gun to school and shoot everyone, and 2F2F the movie didnt make billy drive 100mph and run over some old lady crossing the road.

Rules in general get more & more strict as time goes on. 20 years ago, our parents could get away with so much more than we could even dream about now.

I can't wait until the technology improves, and you won't be able to break any law without getting caught. If you think things are bad now, just wait & see.

I'm with this guy. My dad did all kinds of **** in his 450hp Ventura that I would not ever consider doing now. Its only gonna get worse, the police that is.

I am counting the down minutes until I get my patrol car here in Springdale and get to bust all the stupid teenagers in their riced out pieces of trash. People wonder how our police department is completly self supporting...I'ts all because of people like this.

How true it is, imagine the amount of drugs you could do in the '60s and '70s. I know you can do all of them now, but you cant just do it in front of the police station, with an officer.

Maybe it would stop if they had cop cars, (at least here) that could catch up with our cars, and most ricers. They use the fwd drive impala, that runs 17s in the 1/4 mile. Why so slow? Arent they supposed to be able to chase criminals?
