  • I think I just fried my clutch

It's 23 degrees here, and my gravel driveway is covered in a good 3 inches of ice. At the end of my 40 yard driveway is the gravel road that I live off of (also covered in 3 inches of ice/snow,) which goes uphill towards civilization. After 120 lbs of salt and feverishly spinning my tires on the ice trying to go uphill, I think my clutch is about gone. 3000 RPM in 1st gear and the tires seem to be rolling backwards :(

Thank you, Dominic, for your old clutch. Looks like I'll be needing it a lot sooner than I expected.

Looks like I'll be taking the Jeep down the mountain, over 200 miles to my parents house.

So my clutch is fine, but it seems my LSD doesn't work as it should. Power is applied to the tire that can spin the easiest, wtf

The Torsen LSD needs some friction on the spinning wheel to transfer power - say it can only apply twice the torque to the good wheel as it can to the spinnning wheel. So on ice it may not help too much.

Solution is to gently hold the brakes or parking brake to put some drag on the spinning wheel, so it can transfer more force to the other side.

Ooops. In that case, the diff might already have needed new clutches from the normal wear.
