I called 911 for someone a few months ago and now they want me to come to court to talk about it. Problem is, I have hotel reservations in Canada that day.
What are the consequences of not showing up to something like that? Is there a chance that I can get off the hook and not have to cancel my vacation?
Subpoena issued on the 11th, received in the mail on the 14th. Plans have been set for over a month, hotel reservation for about 2 weeks.
i called 911 a few days ago after i pulled over to help some people in an accident. they didnt pick up because all operators were busy. scary thought...
anyways, why do you have to go to court for something like that??

just go put it back in the mailbox and dont make sure some other mail gets kept in there........its not a law to actually read your mail.... as far as you knew, you never knew.....turn off your answering machine, dont answer home phone unless your SURE you know its not them... dont answer your door unless you know its not them.... nothing, act like your someone running from the law.....
unless a constable gave it to you in person, then theres no proof you knew, thats WHY they deliver them in person most of the time....
if you have a wife or room mate, have them say that you guys were fighting so you were living with a friend for a month.... so you never got anything....
For not going to court for somthing like that you could get in trouble, especially since now they know that you received it. Talk to the DA and if you don't think that you testimony is relivant just tell him.

Ask the DA if you can give a written statement. I'm assuming since the sent you a subpoena, you saw something important. I'd ask about a written statement, if not tell the DA you won't show up, then ask him again for the written statement.
Wait, your telling me your scared of the law, when your gonna be out of the country? Just call somebody back here, and if there are cops at your door, just stay up north.

Just being nosiey, what did you see???
I'm really hoping for a written statement. My only concern is that the defense will want to question me.
It was an assault. The guy's a football player and I bet he'll still be playing football next year and going to school for free. Hell, our star quarterback is a wife-beater and drug-dealer. It makes me sick but I shouldn't have to cancel my vacation.
