  • Ummm....

So tonite i was takin' my gf to her house when i see a cop going the opposite direction and he just makes a U-turn and gets on my ***. The road was a 35-speed limit and i was going 33-35, no more than 35. Anyways, he finally pulls me over after ridin' my *** and shines his bright-*** flashlight at my face and says "Sir, is this car yours?" and then i'm like "Umm.... yea" and i show him my license, registration and insurance, he barely looks at it and says "Your tag lights is broken, i suggest you get it fixed" I NEVER KNEW FIREBIRDS HAD TAG LIGHTS. is this true? i completely forgot bout it and i'm too lazy to go outside (since its cold) and go check. but do we really have a tag light? I have a 95 'bird

I think every car has a light for the rear license plate... I think ours has 1 or 2 of em... but yeah.

it was probably a boring night and he was likely looking for a DUI. he saw your car and thought he had a chance so he turned around and tried to make you nervous. while he was doing that, he found something legit to pull you over about so he could sniff for alcohol inside the passenger compartment. oldest trick in the book.

Yup, every car has a license plate light.

            Legally, it must be illuminated.

Yeah all cars must have them and one of the most common reasons officers will pull you over if they suspect somthing more serious might be going on.

He stood like almost by my gas tank to talk to me. He must've been afraid i was gonna pull out a gun or something. I guess a 18-year old hispanic guy must scare him or something. Oh well, how do i go about changing those bulbs? i havent even checked yet

More likely because you are a young guy driving at night.

I am whiter then white and I ahve been pulled over numerous times for stupid crap like that.

They are probably just checking to make sure you are not drunk, your car isn't stolen, you don't have any warrants.

And lets face the facts, how many of us have NOT done anything illegal in our cars at night before?

As for the cop being worried, he doesn't know if you are in the church choir, or if you just rapped 20 goats, and murdered the farmer and getting ready to go on a murder spree. Don't wanna have an OOPPS!!! mistake as a cop.

goats are dirty animals, i go for chickens. Here at UCF the cops pull us over for "courtesy checks". they dont even have a reason, but if you are sober you get a pen. I'v been pulled over 3 times for this and im sick of it, i think i'll look into a possible lawsuite for harasment if they do it gain (i carry a tape recorder in the car now for just such occasions of being pulled over now).

I have been pulled over 6 times on campus...

only twice did I deserve to be pulled over and one of those times I was given 2 tickets. Other time I was let go with a warning.

I've been pulled over so many times for "no seat belt" where i really did have mine on. There was one time when my friend on the passenger side didnt wear his seat belt and we passed this cop going the opposite way on a stop sign and he turned around and caught up to us and stopped us. Clearly it was my friend not wearin' the seat belt, but he came up to the window and said, "You weren't wearing your seat belt." HE WAS TALKING TO ME! He told me he saw me with no seat belt, and that's why he was pullin' me over for. Blind-@$$ cop. Well, that wasn't the end of it. He tried pullin' up my insurance on his computer and it didn't show. Agghhhh!!! My car got towed and i was left in the curb with my stupid friend and two other ones. The cop left and it started raining, and then i got a ride from this gurl and i had to ride in the trunk bed with my other two friends 'cause only two people could ride up front (i'm hispanic, i wouldnt have minded smushin' myself in there with 4 other people) Anyways, reason why my insurance didnt go thru is 'cause some a-hole in the insurance company didnt put the right VIN # for my car on the database and it wouldnt show. I dont know who i was madder at, the insurance company or my friend.

Well maybe the officer really didn't see your seatbelt. If he suspects that you might not be wearing one he has full right to pull you over. You always have the option of putting it on before he gets up to your car to avoid a citation. As far as your car getting towed and all of that laws vary by state in what they do with cases with no insurance. Oh by the way police officers must take and pass a vision test before being hired on so there is no way he could be a "Blind-@$$ cop"...

only have to have 20/115 uncorrected (w/o glasses) vision here in columbus... so if he forgot his glasses that day, theoretically, he could be a blind *** cop ;)
