gotcha. I agree that that sucks but it was a simple #'s game. The f-body simply wasnt selling well compared to other cars and wasnt seen as worth the money to update. If the new camaro does come out though i think it will sell quite well for a few years at least.

So would you drive an S2000? It puts most of the pre-98 GTs to shame. Its rear wheel drive

I agree with you 100 percent. I dont really like the retro mustang and glad GM didnt do it to the GTO. It was a pieced together car in the 60s and I am glad it still is.

The GTO doesnt have Z06 parts, just base corvette parts like the fbody did. There is no new Z06 yet and it wont have an LS2 when it comes.

I would put money on saying that a good amount of people who complain about the non-retro new GTO, would also complain if it was retro.

The fact is that pontiac took a sleek looking car like the firebird/Trans am, and replaced it with a car with looks reminiscent of a big steaming pile of sh!t !!.

Also its not that the "GTO" isn't retro, its the fact that GM couldn't be bothered to design the GTO itself, but rather just "badge-engineer" another makers car, that being the Holden Monaro. Once again, GM and Pontiac have sold out american styling to the american dollar.

Plain and simple, the "new" GTO is nothing more than a big fat bloated Australian Import. Don't be fooled.

um, GM owns Holden.... and it didnt replace the fbody, it just so happens that they got rid of the fbody before bringing out the GTO.

GM OWNS HOLDEN. the f-body was toast way before the gto was being thought up.

I really have to laugh at a lot of people on these boards who bash the GTOs. As many have stated, GM owns Holden. The only Z06 part in the GTO is the tranny and it's not the exact same (as it isn't rear mounted). Bloated? Heavy? It's SHORTER then the outgoing F-bodies yet has a TON more interior room. It's barely heavier then a F-body convertible. It was never meant to replace the f-body but rather cater to a different crowd. As for price, the MSRP is right up there with the last years of the WS.6's and SS's (and it comes with IRS and a better interior). The 04's are going for mid - low 20's now and when I got my 04 I paid significantly less then for my WS.6. Yes it isn't as "in your face" as a WS.6 or SS, but it's certainly not an "ugly" car.
