I'd get him 2 cars.. a rough 5.0 with not motor.

and a beater, maybe a 4 banger mustang. Let him build and fix the 5.0, while he drives the 4 banger stang. By the time the 5.0 is running, he will respect it more then any of us ever respected our first cars and may not get too crazy with it.

i have to admit i really hate the engine bay on f-bodies, oh my god who is so retarded that they decide to put half the engine under the dashboard and leave 2 feet of nothing behind the bumper!

I probably should of put in the post that he knows how to drive, he's 17. He has been saving up since he was 14 for his own "real car". Meaning, not a crappy civic or some other 4-banger. He knows the value of a car, and wouldnt be stupid with it. I trust him enough to let him drive my car sometimes. He's not an immature punk.

Get a nice 3rd gen Camaro.

Plenty of aftermarket. The stock 305 is not much stronger as our 3.8s and as he get more experiance he can get some more mods. It has plenty of potential.

16-year-old driver + V8 = disaster. He should get something fwd. I got my Camaro when I was 17 and the first time I fishtailed it on wet pavement it scared the **** out of me. An inexperienced driver is more likely wreck a car with rear-drive. My first car: 1998 Chevy Malibu, 3.1 V6. Good little car, wasn't TOO slow.

agreed..witha V8 sports car as his first car..temptations are just going to be much too frequent..like a kid in a candy store..V6 f-body gets my vote
