  • Frickin' car! Just my luck!

So, it's nice and clean ... waxed and all. I get off work today, take the tops off, throw on a cute lil outfit ... I'm ready to cruise. The frickin' SES light comes on ... WTF?!? I take it to Auto Zone, they run the diagnostic test, the code comes up 'manufacture emission malfunction' babble babble. Holy crap! Now I can't drive it (the guy said I shouldn't), I have no money cuz I spent it all on buying the damn thing ... ARG!!!

Everyone should send me a dollar to help me fix the damn thing ... :)

Anywho, any suggestions?!? The dude said it might be my timing belt/chain 'er whatever ... it's loose or something. GRRRRRR!!

First of all. IF you want help with this problem, post it in the general tech forum, not the lounge.

Secondly... just drive it. SES light wont hurt anything, they are just feeding you some BS. Figure out the problem and fix it, thats what the light is for, but you arent likely to hurt it anymore.

First of all, I'm sharing this in the lounge cuz I'm not just asking for help, I'm ranting, like everyone else does!

Secondly, if they tell me not to drive it, I'm not going to. I'm not going to f*ck it up even more. And believe me, I'd love to just figure out the problem and fix it, but it's not that easy when you're broke!

                  When it's flashing, it's an electrical problem ... I think ...

HAHA guy at autozone said not to drive it?

any chance you got the exact code?

Did it say something like exhaust inefficiency?

For ****s and giggles, go tighten your gas cap a few clicks.

Ya, the guy at Auto Zone is a buddy of mine. He told me I would mess it up more ...

I will get the exact code tomorrow. I was pissed and forgot to write it down earlier!

I already tried the gas cap thing, didn't work, but thanks! :)

The computer in our car is somewhat sensitive. SES codes come and go, and a lot of the guys on the board will tell you so. If there is no visible problem, no roughness while driving it, no noise or anything - how else would you know there's a problem? Especially if it's "emission" related... I'm almost positive it's fine to drive.

This is true. First thing I do is disconnect the battery for 1/2 hour, reset the computer & see if the code comes back. I've had 3 random SES codes that were fixed by reseting the computer.

we really need the exact code to do anything. it could be something as simple as a blocked egr or a bad o2 or as annoying as a bad catalytic convertor. usually you are just going to pollute the environment by driving it or see reduced engine power.

if the ses is flashing that usually means misfire. driving on a misfire is a bad idea since that usually dumps raw fuel into the cat and it burns up.
