Skill like the kid is showing is impressive, but it doesn't necessarily make a great guitarist. Look at guys like Kurt Cobain (Nirvana) and Billy Joe Armstrong (Green Day). They aren't prodigies at guitar, but they rock damn hard.
I can only listen to stuff like Satriani and Malmsteen for so long before it gets boring. I'd much rather listen to simple riffs with great lyrics and other instruments coming together than one guy thrashing out 100 notes per second. My favorite band is the Strokes, the two guitarists are nothing amazing. I can nail most of their solos, but I listen to their CDs all the time. I've probably spun their first one literally a thousand times.

I agree with you guys to a point. Joe Sat, malmsteen, and John Petrucci i consider composers. Rock bands are muscians and people who just cover songs are just guitar players.

I like that second video better than the first...little more soul and heart along with refined skills.
Malmsteen gets old quick.. but to me Joe Satriani is one of the most creative and cutting edge guitarist out there (save for Buckethead) that is also enjoyable to listen to because its melodic based. And Satriani has a wide range of musical style (acoustic guitar, blues, electronica, thrash metal, even a little bluegrass/country). Radio music/Rock bands are very boring to me...can't stand repetitive, simplistic chords with Vocals, you could cut the songs in half and still have the same thing but with less repetition. No "rock band" guitarist gets the tones out of their guitars that Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, Buckethead, Neil Zaza, John Petrucci (Dream Theater) and the many other great intrumental guitarist do.
A great guitarist maxes out the potential of the electrical guitar and can make it do whatever he/she wants, in otherwords is a master of the instrument. Rock bands don't max the potential of electrical guitars because the vocals and "story telling" get in the way - they constrain lead guitar to its own segment instead of incorporating it as an integral "backbone" of the musical piece. That's why I don't like mainstream rock/rock bands and instead like instrumental guitarist/conglomerate groups who have mastered the guitar and frame songs around the electric guitar.
But that's my view of what I like, everybody has their own view...
I didn't watch any of the videos, and I'm not exactly great at guitar, but I do know quite a bit about music. There's a difference between a good player, and a talented player. I could pick up a guitar, rehearse the same thing over and over and play it flawlessly, doesn't mean I'm talented.. it just means I'm determined to learn.
I'll get around to watching the videos later.
Oh, and by the way:
As quoted from another forum
"The best thing Kurt Cobain ever did for music was swallow a 12 gauge slug."

I feel that a great guitarist is someone who puts out guitar work that is interesting to listen to and entertains people first, then shows a decent understanding of the instrument. That's why I would rather listen to Jimi Hendrix than Yngwie Malmsteen. In terms of skill Malmsteen could destroy Hendrix with three fingers off one hand, but I believe that Hendrix is a better musician and entertainer.
Make no mistake, I would love to be able to play as fast as Vai, Satriani, and Malmsteen. But I don't want to take a scale or two and make it into a song, which is almost what is done with some of those guys' songs.
