My inlaws use electric to heat a 4 year old house which is smaller than mine and has excellent insulation and it costs them the same (combined gas & elect vs. their elect.) as it costs us to heat our 105 year old house. If our house even has insulation, it's probably shreded-newspaper. Plus, since my mother-in-law is home alone a lot since dad's an OTR trucker, she only heats & lights the room she's in.
IMO the best source of heat is wood. A good stove will heat an average sized house on 4-5 logs a day. Out here a cut & split cord of wood costs ~$100 and at that rate will last 1.5-2 months. Or you can go cut it yourself and save even more $ [img]smile.gif[/img]
